A hair shampoo composition comprising a cleansing surfactant; a water-insoluble hair treating compound, like a hair conditioner or an antidandruff agent; a suspending agent comprising an amine including at least one long carbon chain and a suitable acid; and a suitable carrier, and a method of treating hair are disclosed. The shampoo compositions effectively suspend the water-insoluble hair-treating compound, effectively cleanse the hair and effectively deliver the water-insoluble hair-treating compound to the hair or scalp.

An opacifier comprising an amine including at least one carbon chain of at least 16 carbon atoms or a fancy amidoamine having an alkyl group including at least about thirteen carbon atoms, and a suitable acid is disclosed. The opacifier is a salt of the long-chain amine and effectively opacifies, or pearlizes, water-based compositions, such as hair treating compositions, like shampoos, conditioners, conditioning shampoos and antidandruff shampoos; and skin treating compositions, like conditioners, moisturizers and topical medicaments.

An opacifier comprising an amine including at least one carbon chain of at least 16 carbon atoms or a fatty amidoamine having an alkyl group including at least about thirteen carbon atoms, and a suitable acid is disclosed. The opacifier is a salt of the long-chain amine and effectively opacifies, or pearlizes, water-based compositions, such as hair treating compositions, like shampoos, conditioners, conditioning shampoos and antidandruff shampoos; and skin treating compositions, like conditioners, moisturizers and topical medicaments.

A hair setting composition that includes a water-insoluble amino- or substututed amino-containing compound, such as octylamine or an amino-functionalized silicone, and an ionizable metal salt, wherein the metal has a valence of at least II, such as aluminum chloride or zinc chloride, in a molar or molar-equivalent ratio of ionizable metal salt to water-insoluble amino-containing compound of at least 1:1, and having a pH in the range of about 2.7 to about 4.5, to provide unexpectedly durable hair set retention properties after application to human hair.
