A method for treating a vascular condition is disclosed, the method comprising delivering a stent to a target region of a vessel, the stent including a drug polymer coating including an elution portion and a remaining portion, eluting the elution portion from the delivered stent for an elution period, heating the delivered stent after the elution period; and removing the remaining portion based on the heating.

Releasable polymer on drug elution stent and method

The expandable stent with a crimpable coating of the present invention provides an expandable stent with a coating containing a drug or therapeutic agent that can be crimped to a balloon according to conventional methods without damaging the coating. The stent comprises a stent frame, and a coating applied over the stent frame with the coating having at least one crimpable zone and containing a therapeutic agent. In one embodiment, the length of the crimpable zone can be much less than the length of the stent and the crimpable zone can have a higher durometer value than the remainder of the coating. In another embodiment, the coating in the crimpable zones can form rails to protect the coating in the regular coating zones.

Biocompatible metallic medical devices having silanized surfaces coupled to nucleophile residues that release sustained, therapeutic amounts of nitric oxide to specific sites within a mammalian body are provided. Additionally, the biocompatible metallic medical devices can also be provided with anti-thrombogenic, lubricious coatings that release sustained, therapeutic amounts of nitric oxide. Moreover, the silanized metallic devices are surprisingly durable when exposed to harsh chemical methods often needed to bind nitric oxide-releasing functional groups to nucleophile residues. Furthermore, methods are provided for producing stable, silanized, sustained nitric oxide-releasing metallic medical devices.

Nitric oxide-releasing metallic medical devices

Methods are provided for delivering nitric oxide to the vascular tissue of a patient to inhibit or prevent restenosis or improve vascular function following various surgical procedures or associated with various NO-related conditions. The disclosed methods comprise contacting the vascular tissue of a patient with a medical device coated with a coating comprising nitric oxide associated with and releaseable from a polyurea network formed from the reaction on said medical device of a polyisocyanate; an amine donor and/or hydroxyl donor; an isocyanatosilane adduct having terminal isocyanate groups and at least one hydrolyzable alkoxy group bonded to silicon; and optionally a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, and polyacrylic acid.

Uses for medical devices having a lubricious, nitric oxide-releasing coating

A coating composition is provided comprising hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof and a blocked polyisocyanate in a solvent comprising water. A method is provided for preparing the coating on a substrate comprising forming a coating mixture of hyaluronic acid or a salt thereof and a blocked polyisocyanate in a solvent comprising water; applying the coating mixture to the substrate; and curing the coating.

Method for preparing a biocompatible coating

Coatings are provided in which biopolymers may be covalently linked to a substrate. Such biopolymers include those that impart thromboresistance and/or biocompatibility to the substrate, which may be a medical device. Coatings disclosed herein include those that permit coating of a medical device in a single layer, including coatings that permit applying the single layer without a primer. Suitable biopolymers include heparin complexes, and linkage may be provided by a silane having isocyanate functionality. Plasma deposition and solvent swelling techniques are described as preferred methods of depositing a derivatized silane or a silane-heparin coating.

Thromboresistant coating method

A coating is provided comprising a polyurethane network formed from the reaction on a substrate to be coated, of a mixture comprising a polyisocyanate; a hydroxyl donor and/or amine donor; a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, and polyacrylic acid; and an isocyanatosilane adduct having terminal isocyanate groups and at least one hydrolyzable alkoxy group bonded to silicon in a solvent. A method for preparing the coating is also provided.

One step lubricious coating

A two step method or process for improving the adherence or bonding of a lubricious coating of a crosslinked polyurethane, polyurea or polyurethaneurea/PEO or PVP coating to a substrate surface, said two step method comprising a first step of subjecting said surface to a surface preparation which results in the treated surface being provided with a functional tie layer containing functional groups for reaction with functional groups of a reaction mixture to be applied in a subsequent second step, which upon curing forms a crosslinked polyurethane, polyurea or polyurethaneurea/PEO or PVP coating and a second step of applying to said tie layer said reaction mixture and curing the reaction mixture. A medical device resulting from the above-described two step method.

Method of improving the adherence of certain crosslinked polymer coatings containing PEO or PVP to a substrate

A coating is provided for a substrate comprising a polyisocyanate; an amine donor and/or hydroxyl donor; an isocyanatosilane adduct having terminal isocyanate groups and at least one hydrolyzable alkoxy group bonded to silicon; and optionally a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyethylene oxide, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, and polyacrylic acid. The coating can accommodate a drug so that when the coating is applied to a medical device, the medical device becomes drug-releasing when in contact with aqueous body fluid. A coated article as well as a method for preparing the coating is also provided.
