A method and device for local delivery of water-soluble or water-insoluble therapeutic agents to the surface of a normal or diseased body lumen is disclosed. An expandable structure of a medical disposable device, such as a balloon of a balloon catheter, is coated with an amphiphilic polymer coating comprising a therapeutic agent and an amphiphilic polymer or co-polymer. The medical disposable device is inserted into a body lumen, and expanded to contact the amphiphilic polymer coating against the body lumen. The total solubility of the polymer or co-polymer in vivo prevents any embolic hazard associated with the amphiphilic polymer coating.

Local delivery of water-soluble or water-insoluble therapeutic agents to the surface of body lumens

A method and device for local delivery of a water-insoluble therapeutic agent to the tissue of a normal or diseased body lumen is disclosed. An expandable structure of a medical disposable device, such as a balloon of a balloon catheter, is coated with a non-durable coating which comprises poly(HEMA) complexed with iodine and has a substantially water-insoluble therapeutic agent dispersed therein. The medical disposable device is inserted into a body lumen, and expanded to contact the non-durable coating against the body lumen and deliver the substantially water-insoluble therapeutic agent to the body lumen tissue.

An apparatus for delivering devices. The apparatus comprises a catheter with an elongated shaft having a first lumen and a second lumen extending therethrough. The apparatus further comprises a distal section with a lumen in communication with a port in a distal end of the catheter and with the first lumen and the second lumen. The first lumen is configured for a first device and the second lumen is configured for a second device to be disposed therein. The apparatus further comprises a proximal adapter coupled to the elongated shaft with a first port in communication with the first lumen and a second port in communication with the second lumen.

Dual needle delivery system

A bioscaffolding can be formed within a post-myocardial infarct region sufficient to cause attenuation of a rate of myocardial infarct expansion. A bioscaffolding may further be formed in the post-myocardial infarct region to cause an increase in posterior left ventricular wall thickness. The gel or bioscaffolding can be formed from a mixture of gel components of different gelation systems. For example, a bioscaffolding can be formed by mixing at least two different components of at least two different two-component gelation systems to form a first mixture and by mixing at least two different components (other than the components that make up the first mixture) of the at least two different two-component gelation systems to form a second mixture.

Composition for modifying myocardial infarction expansion

A method including percutaneously positioning a delivery device in a blood vessel; locally introducing a treatment agent from the delivery device into the blood vessel upstream of an infarcted area or distressed area; and following introducing the treatment agent, occluding the blood vessel for a dwell time sufficient to allow the treatment agent to flow into targeted capillaries in or adjacent to the infarcted area. A system comprising a delivery device suitable for percutaneous insertion into a blood vessel of a patient, the delivery device comprising an occluding portion and a delivery cannula having a lumen therethrough; a controller coupled to a proximal portion of the delivery device comprising instruction logic to perform a method including introducing a treatment agent into the delivery cannula; and occluding a blood vessel following a predetermined delay time after introducing the treatment agent.

System for the injection of cells and/or biologically active materials into coronary arteries for therapeutic purposes

A medical device comprising a coating thereon comprising a biocompatible polymer and heparin is provided herein. Heparin is coupled with the biocompatible polymer via a spacer having a grouping that renders a binding site of the heparin molecule accessible by a binding protein. The medical device can be implanted in a human being for the treatment of a disease such as atherosclerosis, thrombosis, restenosis, hemorrhage, vascular dissection or perforation, vascular aneurysm, vulnerable plaque, chronic total occlusion, claudication, anastomotic proliferation for vein and artificial grafts, bile duct obstruction, ureter obstruction, tumor obstruction, or combinations thereof.

Antifouling heparin coatings

A method that includes introducing a catheter assembly to an obstructed region of a blood vessel lumen and recanalizing the obstructed region with the catheter assembly is disclosed. Prior to or during recanalization, a treatment agent may be delivered through the catheter assembly to a vessel region downstream to the obstructed region. The treatment agent may have a property that will inhibit reperfusion injury. Alternatively, a medical device may be introduced to an obstructed region of a blood vessel lumen and the obstructed region recanalized with the medical device. The treatment agent may be delivered to a vessel region downstream to the obstructed region. The treatment agent may include at least one of an immunosuppresant and an antioxidant. In other methods, a delivery cannula may be introduced to an unperfused region of an occluded vessel without disrupting the occlusion and the treatment agent having a property that will inhibit reperfusion injury may be delivered to the unperfused region through the delivery cannula. After delivering the treatment agent, the occluded vessel may be recanalized by advancing an angioplasty device into the occluded vessel.

A method is described including passing a solution having a biodegradable polymer, a solvent and a treatment agent through an electrocharged nozzle to form particles encapsulating the treatment agent. The particles emitted from the electrocharged nozzle may be exposed to a charge opposite that of the nozzle. The particles may be deposited in a collection assembly comprising a liquid phase. A further method including combining a biodegradable polymer, a solvent and a treatment agent to form a solution, electrodepositing the solution in a particle form wherein the particles encapsulate the treatment agent in a collection assembly comprising a liquid phase and mixing the particles with a bioerodible material capable of forming a gel is described. An apparatus having an electrocharged nozzle, a grounded electrode having an opposite charge to that of the nozzle and a collection assembly comprising a liquid phase is further disclosed.
