A switching device for a multi-filament electric lamp. The filaments of the electric lamp are electrically connected to arcuate contact surfaces arranged in a circle. The conductive bar is arranged to rotate about the axis of the circular arrangement of contact surfaces. The ends of the conductive bar contact the contact surfaces, and an electric power supply is electrically connected to the center portion of the conductive bar. Current flows into the center portion of the bar and out both ends and through the filaments of the electric lamp in the patterns determined by actuation of a pull-chain to operate the lamp in LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH states. With the conductive bar in a further, pull-chain determined position, the lamp is OFF.

Switch mechanism for a multiple filament electric lamp

Automatic door closers have a latch mechanism for holding the door open. In one mode of operation, the latching of the door is effected automatically when the door is opened. Tapping the door closer cylinder upwardly releases the latch mechanism and allows the door to close. Manual manipulation of the latch mechanism is required to latch the door open in a second mode of operation. However, in this mode of operation, the latch mechanism can be released simply by opening the door slightly beyond its latched position. The door closer includes a cylinder with a rectilinearly displaceable piston rod housed therein and extending through one cylinder head; and the latch mechanism comprises that cylinder head and a notch in the piston rod into which cylinder head is fitted to keep the piston rod from telescoping into the cylinder. The opposite end of the cylinder and the exposed end of the piston rod are attached to the door and the door frame. Consequently, the door cannot close as long as the piston rod is kept from telescoping into the cylinder by the latch mechanism.

Door closers

Canister type vacuum cleaners having a casing with convex sides which allow the vacuum cleaner to be pulled or otherwise displaced along a supporting surface irrespective of which side of the surface is facing downwardly and engaging that surface. A roller supported from a casing side wall at the base of the vacuum cleaner or one roller in an array which includes a roller supported from each casing side wall at the base end of the vacuum cleaner can be engaged with the supporting surface to increase the mobility of the vacuum cleaner. These rollers do not affect the insensitivity to orientation of the vacuum cleaner.

Canister type vacuum cleaner

Vacuum cleaner attachments which have a V-shaped cleaning head and are particularly suited for cleaning in corners and crevices and along the edges of surfaces. Vertically biased and rotatable brushes and other disturbers can be provided to promote the dislodgement of foreign substances from the surface being cleaned; and the attachment can be constructed to operate in a first mode in which suction is concentrated in the nose of the attachment, causing it to emulate a conventional crevice tool. In a second mode of operation, the suction is distributed along the legs or wings of the attachment so that it functions in a manner akin to that of a dusting brush or floor cleaning attachment. An optional control and a detent arrangement allow more sophisticated versions of the attachment to be operated in a selected one of the foregoing modes or in a third mode in which the attachment alternates between the two first-mentioned modes of operation as it is pushed away from and pulled toward the operator. A preferred universal-type connection between the cleaning head and a vacuum fitting attached thereto facilitate the manipulation of the attachment and allow pressure to be brought to bear on the nose of the cleaning head, thereby promoting the dislodgement of foreign substances from the surface being cleaned.

Vacuum cleaner attachments

Vacuum cleaner attachments which have a V-shaped cleaning head and are particularly suited for cleaning in corners and crevices and along the edges of surfaces. Vertically biased and rotatable brushes and other disturbers can be provided to promote the dislodgement of foreign substances from the surface being cleaned. A preferred universal-type connection between the cleaning head and a vacuum fitting attached thereto facilitate the manipulation of the attachment and allow pressure to be brought to bear on the nose of the cleaning head, thereby promoting the dislodgement of foreign substances from the surface being cleaned.

A lockable rotatable heated curling brush which is used for styling and curling hair includes a rod housing which serves as a handle, an inner tube fixedly connected to said handle and protruding therefrom, a heater inside said inner tube electrically connected to a swivel cord, and an outer tube rotatably supported by said inner tube, said outer tube having a round brush on the outer surface thereof. The outer tube is held in the handle by a circular guide in front which mates with a notched flange at the rear of the outer tube. There is a spring latch device which locks or frees the outer tube so it can rotate. The inner tube within the outer tube is aluminum and is in heat conducting relationship with the heater and the outer tube. The heater is positioned in the inner tube such that the axial center of the heater is forward of the longitudinal center of the inner tube at a point which offsets the unequal heat loss rate to the atmosphere of the forward and rearward ends of the outer tube whereby maximum uniform heating of the outer tube and brush occurs. The preferred heater is a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor.

Electrically heated rotatable curler brush

A tweezer useful for plucking hair comprising a housing; arms extending out of the housing and having jaws for grasping a hair to be plucked; first means for closing the arms around the hair until the hair is grasped between the jaws; second means for automatically retracting the arms into the housing after the hair has been grasped between the jaws; means mounted for movement along the housing, whereby a first movement thereof causes the first means to close the arms around and grasp the hair between the jaws, and a second movement thereof, in the same direction as the first movement, causes the second means to retract the arms into the housing, thereby plucking the hair; and means for automatically returning the arms to their unretracted and unclosed position.

Tweezer

Canister type vacuum cleaners, which can be used in any of their horizontal and upright positions. The vacuum cleaners include a casing housing a motor and a vacuum pump and a readily accessible compartment for a dust bag. The casing is free of protuberances and is configured so it will slide easily across the surface of the area in which it is used. It may be surrounded with an integral or removable cover to keep the cleaner from damaging furniture, etc., and/or a removable dolly may be attached to increase the mobility of the cleaner. A readily locatable, foot-operated power switch external to the vacuum cleaner casing is also provided to facilitate turning it on and off.
