A joining device and method for laser-based joining of two components includes a first laser radiation source, a first radiation guide connected to the first radiation source to couple first laser radiation into the first radiation guide, a second laser radiation source, at least one second radiation guide connected to the second radiation source to couple second laser radiation into the second radiation guide, and a focusing device coupled to the laser radiations and focusing them at a distance from each other into a joining zone of the components. To reduce installation effort, the focusing device focuses the first and second laser radiations through a common beam path and a coupling device is connected on its input side to the first and second radiation guides and on its output side to the focusing device. The coupling device couples the first and second laser radiations into the common beam path.

The present invention provides a fiber laser system that delivers from a single processing cable a multibeam output. The present invention allows for controlling multiple fiber laser modules and delivering their respective outputs in a pre-determined sequence but in a single processing cable, thereby providing multiple processing steps on a work piece that heretofore required separate optics for each beam. Custom fiber laser systems that combine processing steps tailored for a specific industrial application such as pre-heating, cutting, cleaning, welding, brazing, ablating, annealing, cooling, polishing and the like can be readily provided because of the present invention.

Multibeam fiber laser system

A hand displaceable laser welding gun is configured with an elongated support column extending along a longitudinal axis and made from lightweight material. A support plate is displaceably mounted to the column while supporting thereon an optical head axially which is provided with optics. The optics is configured to direct a laser beam along a path towards a welding zone through a protective window of the optical head. The laser welding gun further is structured with a first arm mounted to the support plate and extending along a longitudinal axis of the gun diametrically opposite to the optical head. The inner surface of the displaceable arm has an inner surface defining a tunnel which is aligned with the optical head and axially traversed by the laser beam, a first axially flowing stream of pressurized gaseous medium, and a second axially flowing stream of gaseous medium. The second stream, entering the tunnel at a pressure lower than that one of the first stream in response to a pressure gradient generated in the column, does not generate vortexes within the column. The first and second streams exit through the downstream end of the tunnel next to the welding zone. As the streams flow out, they carry out welding debris flowing within the tunnel to the optical head.

A powerful fiber laser system is configured with at least one filtering element capable of preventing a backreflected Raman component of the main signal from propagating along the upstream stretch of the system. The filtering element includes a slanted fiber grating, one or more cladding formations disposed in a cladding of fiber and having a refractive index greater than that one of the cladding, but lower than a refractive index of the core, and/or a combination of two spaced apart single mode fibers and a low mode fiber spliced to the opposing ends of the respective SM fibers.
