An apparatus and process for oxidant formation can be configured to facilitate improved mixing of for formation of an oxidant. Embodiments can be configured so conduits having a relatively large aspect ratio (e.g., 1.5 to 5 or 1.5 to over 5) can be utilized for improved gas mixing even in situations in which the carrier gas is at a relatively low pressure. Embodiments can also facilitate low nitrogen oxide formation combustion. Some embodiments can additionally provide improved carbon capture.

Apparatus and process for oxidant formation

Process and apparatus for producing a H-containing product and a CO-containing product with CO-containing product turndown capability. The H-containing product is produced in a process train with a shift reactor and pressure swing adsorption unit. The CO-containing product is produced in a process train with a COremoval unit and a cryogenic separation unit. During the CO-containing product turndown mode, a portion or all of the CO-containing product is passed to the shift reactor in the H-containing product train to form additional H.

Apparatus and process for producing a hydrogen-containing product stream and a carbon monoxide-containing product stream from a crude synthesis gas produced in a syngas production unit. Carbon dioxide is removed from the process gas by a non-cryogenic means and the hydrogen-containing product stream is separated from the process gas in a pressure swing adsorber. Residual gas from the pressure swing adsorber is passed to a cryogenic separation unit where the cryogenic separation unit separates the residual gas stream into the carbon monoxide-containing product stream, a hydrogen-enriched stream, a methane-enriched stream, and a carbon monoxide-containing intermediate stream by cryogenic fractionation. At least a portion of the hydrogen-enriched stream is recycled to the pressure swing adsorber.

Process and apparatus for producing hydrogen and carbon monoxide

A hydrogen production process wherein steam and a hydrocarbon feed is reacted in a prereformer, the prereformed intermediate is further reacted in an oxygen-based reformer, the reformate is shifted and then separated by a pressure swing adsorber to form a Hproduct stream and a tail gas, a first portion of the tail gas is recycled to the prereformer and/or the oxygen-based reformer, and a second portion of the tail gas is recycled to the pressure swing adsorber.

A steam methane reforming process for producing a hydrogen product while capturing COfrom the process. Steam and a hydrocarbon are reformed in a catalytic reformer. The reformate is separated by pressure swing adsorption to form the hydrogen product and a PSA tail gas. The tail gas is returned to the reformer as a fuel. The fuel is combusted with synthetic air where the synthetic air is formed by combining a portion of the flue gas with industrial grade oxygen. The flue gas consists essentially of COand HO. The HO is condensed out of another portion of the flue gas to form an essentially pure COproduct.

A process for producing a hydrogen-containing product gas with reduced carbon dioxide emissions compared to conventional hydrogen production processes. A hydrocarbon and steam are reformed in a reformer and the resulting reformate stream is shifted in one or more shift reactors. The shifted mixture is scrubbed to remove carbon dioxide to form a carbon dioxide-depleted stream. The carbon dioxide-depleted stream is separated to form a hydrogen-containing product gas and a by-product gas. A portion of the hydrogen containing product gas is used as a fuel in the reformer and a portion of the by-product gas is recycled back into the process. The process may optionally include reforming in a prereformer and/or an oxygen secondary reformer.

Steam-hydrocarbon reforming with reduced carbon dioxide emissions

A method for generating hydrogen and/or syngas in a production facility where little or no export steam is produced. Most or all of the steam produced from the waste heat from the process is used in the steam-hydrocarbon reformer. Reformed gas is passed to a pressure swing adsorption system for Hpurification. In the method, COis removed from the pressure swing adsorber residual gas prior to recycling the residual gas to the reformer for use as feed and as fuel. Plant efficiencies using the method and prior art-type methods are compared.

Steam-hydrocarbon reforming method with limited steam export

A process and apparatus for producing a hydrogen-containing gas in a reformer where a furnace, which is independent of the reformer, heats the effluent from a prereformer prior to reacting the prereformer effluent in the reformer. The prereformer effluent may be heated in a heat exchange tube in the furnace where the heat exchange tube is positioned in the furnace to preclude direct radiation from any flames in the furnace thereby preventing local overheating of the heat exchange tube and preventing carbon formation in the heat exchange tube. Fuel and oxidant gas may be introduced into the furnace with significant excess oxidant gas, having a stoichiometric ratio of 1.8 to 2.8 for controlling the temperature of the heat exchange tube.

Method and apparatus for producing a hydrogen-containing gas

A method for generating hydrogen and/or synthesis gas in a production facility where little or no export steam is produced. Most or all of the high pressure steam produced from the waste heat from the process is used in the steam-hydrocarbon reformer with little or no steam export. The method uses oxygen enhanced combustion which may involve oxygen lancing and/or oxygen-enrichment. Plant efficiencies using the method and prior art-type methods are compared.

A catalyst for adiabatically prereforming a feedstock wherein the catalyst comprises 1 to 20 wt. % nickel and 0.4 to 5 wt. % potassium on a calcium aluminate support. The overall catalyst porosity is greater than 40% with greater than 70% of the overall catalyst porosity contributed by pores having pore diameters of at least 500 &#x212b;, and having a median pore diameter greater than 2600 &#x212b;, and having a nitrogen BET area less than 6.5 m/g.

Catalyst for improving the adiabatic steam reforming of natural gas

A process for adiabatically prereforming a feedstock, includes: providing an adiabatic reactor; providing a catalyst containing 1-20 wt. % nickel and 0.4-5 wt. % potassium, wherein the catalyst has an overall catalyst porosity of 25-50% with 20-80% of the overall catalyst porosity contributed by pores having pore diameters of at least 500 &#x212b;; providing the feedstock containing natural gas and steam, wherein the natural gas contains an initial concentration of higher hydrocarbons, and a ratio of steam to natural gas in the feedstock is from 1.5:1 to 5:1; preheating the feedstock to a temperature of 300-700&#xb0; C. to provide a heated feedstock; providing the heated feedstock to the reactor; and producing a product containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, unreacted methane, and steam, wherein said product contains a reduced concentration of higher hydrocarbons less than the initial concentration of higher hydrocarbons, to prereform the feedstock.

Catalyst and process for improving the adiabatic steam-reforming of natural gas

Method for the production of methanol and hydrogen which comprises steam reforming a hydrocarbon-containing feed in a steam reforming zone to yield a synthesis gas comprising hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide; introducing a first portion of the synthesis gas into a methanol synthesis zone to form methanol; reacting a second portion of the synthesis gas with steam to convert carbon monoxide to hydrogen and carbon dioxide to yield a shifted synthesis gas; cooling the shifted synthesis gas to yield a cooled shifted synthesis gas; separating the cooled shifted synthesis gas into a high-purity hydrogen product stream and a reject stream enriched in carbon dioxide; and introducing some or all of the reject stream into either or both of the steam reforming zone and the methanol synthesis zone.

Co-production of hydrogen and methanol from steam reformate

A process is provided for simultaneously producing a syngas product having a H /CO ratio of less than 2.5 and a hydrogen gas product. The process includes increasing an amount of carbon dioxide being fed to a secondary reformer with carbon dioxide extracted from: (a) an effluent from a primary reformer and (b) an effluent from the secondary reformer. An apparatus for performing the process is also provided.
