An elastomeric composition and method incorporating a hydrocarbon polymer modifier with improved permanence. The composition comprises elastomer, filler and silane-functionalized hydrocarbon polymer modifier (Si-HPM) made in a pre-reaction adapted to couple the Si-HPM to the elastomer, filler or both, wherein the Si-HPM comprises an interpolymer of monomers chosen from piperylenes, cyclic pentadienes, aromatics, limonenes, pinenes, amylenes, and combinations thereof.

Silane-functionalized hydrocarbon polymer modifiers for elastomeric compositions

In methods for forming thermoplastic vulcanizates, and thermoplastic vulcanizates formed by such methods, a masterbatch comprising one or more additives in a carrier resin comprising propylene- or ethylene-based copolymer is added to the thermoplastic vulcanizate formulation. The resulting thermoplastic vulcanizate may additionally be passed through a 200 mesh or finer screen and thereafter extruded. The thermoplastic vulcanizates may exhibit increased extrusion throughput rates and enhanced surface smoothness.

Thermoplastic vulcanizate compositions

Described herein are thermoplastic vulcanizates comprising propylene-based elastomers and methods for producing the same. The thermoplastic vulcanizates comprise rubber, at least 10 wt % of thermoplastic resin, from 1 to 9 wt % of propylene-based elastomer, oil, and at least 5 wt % of one or more fillers. The thermoplastic vulcanizates are made by a method where the propylene-based elastomer is introduced to the extrusion reactor before the curative is introduced to the extrusion reactor.

Thermoplastic vulcanizates comprising propylene-based elastomers and methods for making the same

Provided are compositions comprising: (i) a dispersed phase of rubber that is at least partially cured; (ii) a continuous thermoplastic phase including at least one thermoplastic polymer; (iii) a first polysiloxane having a number average molecular weight greater than 100 kg/mole; and (iv) a second polysiloxane having a number average molecular weight less than 100 kg/mole, and methods for making such compositions. Also provided are laminates including such compositions, weatherseals made therefrom, and methods for making them.

Compositions and methods for making them

Described herein are thermoplastic vulcanizates comprising thermoplastic resin, an at least partially vulcanized rubber dispersed in the thermoplastic resin, and process oil. The process oil in the thermoplastic vulcanizate may be selected from extension oil, free oil, curative-in-oil, and/or combination thereof. At least a portion of the process oil in the thermoplastic vulcanizate is a low aromatic/sulfur content oil and has an aromatic content of less than 5 wt %, and a sulfur content of less than 0.03 wt %, based on the weight of that portion of the process oil. The thermoplastic vulcanizate exhibits improved gravimetric fogging properties.

Thermoplastic vulcanizates and method of making the same

An underwater pelletizing method for pelletizing brittle hydrocarbon resins with low melt viscosity. A feed material comprising the hydrocarbon resin is formed into a melt, extruded through a die into a water bath below the Tg of the hydrocarbon resin to form a plurality of extrudates and cut adjacent the die surface to form a slurry of resin pellets. A graft monomer and/or other reactants, such as a hydrosilylation agent, may be introduced into the resin melt to chemically modify the hydrocarbon resin.

Underwater pelletizing method for low viscosity hydrocarbon resins

An elastomeric composition and method incorporating a hydrocarbon polymer modifier with improved permanence. The composition comprises elastomer, filler and silane-functionalized hydrocarbon polymer modifier (Si-HPM) adapted to couple the Si-HPM to the elastomer, filler or both, wherein the Si-HPM comprises an interpolymer of monomers chosen from piperylenes, cyclic pentadienes, aromatics, limonenes, pinenes, amylenes, and combinations thereof. The method comprises melt processing a mixture to form the elastomeric composition in the shape of an article, wherein the mixture comprises elastomer, Si-HPM, silica, bifunctional organosilane crosslinking agent; and curing the elastomeric composition to form the article. Also disclosed are a silylated hydrocarbon polymer modifier coupled with a bifunctional organosilane crosslinking agent, and a silica-coupled hydrocarbon polymer modifier coupled to the silica via the bifunctional organosilane crosslinking agent.

A weatherable, flame-resistant thermoplastic vulcanizate composition comprising a thermoplastic matrix; and dispersed within said matrix, an at least partially cured rubber, a flame retardant, and carbon black.

Weatherable and flame-resistant thermoplastic vulcanizates and methods for making them

A thermoplastic vulcanizate comprising a dynamically cured rubber, where the rubber is peroxide cured, and a thermoplastic phase, where at least 10% by weight of the thermoplastic phase includes an ultrahigh molecular weight plastic, where the ultrahigh molecular weight plastic is characterized by a Mthat is greater than 0.8&#xd7;10g/mole.

Peroxide-cured thermoplastic vulcanizates prepared with ultrahigh molecular weight plastics

In one embodiment is a thermoplastic vulcanizates having improved extrusion properties formed from a composition that includes from 20% to about 80% by weight of an elastomer, from about 80% to about 20% by weight of a thermoplastic, from about 0.05 to about 12 phr of a multifunctional methacrylate monomer peroxide curing coagent; and from about 0.02 to about 6 phr of a phosphorous containing stabilizer. The resultant thermoplastic vulcanizate may be cured with a peroxide curing agent and shows improved die lip build up compared to conventionally prepared thermoplastic vulcanizates. Methods of forming thermoplastic vulcanizates having improved die lip build up are also taught.
