A target gas sensor employing a radiation source () and a radiation sensor () including a reference radiation detector (), a target radiation detector (), a temperature sensor (), a temperature controller () and a target gas detection processor (). In operation, radiation source () controls a propagation of radiation (RAD) through a gas mixture (GM) contained by an airway () to radiation sensor (). Reference radiation detector () generates a reference detection signal (RD) indicative of a detected magnitude of a reference wavelength (&#x3bb;) of the radiation, and target radiation detector () generates a target detection signal (TD) indicative of a detected magnitude of a target wavelength (&#x3bb;) of the radiation. Temperature sensor () senses a temperature of radiation detectors () whereby temperature controller () regulates a heating of the radiation detectors () relative to a regulated detector temperature (T). Target gas detection processor () measures the target gas concentration within the sample of the gas mixture (GM) as a function of an absorbing spectral response ratio (SRR) and a temperature compensation (TPC).

Temperature compensation of gas sensors

A sensor device to detect a level of carbon dioxide in a body of gas includes one or more lead selenide detectors as infrared sensing elements. The sensor device operates without temperature regulation required by conventional lead selenide-based sensors, and instead measurements of the sensor device are compensated for a temperature measured by a thermal sensor.

System and method for performing heater-less lead selenide-based capnometry and/or capnography

An addressable valve system is described wherein a plurality of valves are embedded into a single, compact valve block. Each valve comprises a piston moving in a bore in the block. A magnet embedded in the piston is positioned within a coil. When energized, the coil attracts the magnet and the plunger upwards away from a valve seat. Magnetic shields disposed between the pistons provide magnetic isolation between the pistons and simultaneously apply a closing force to the pistons by drawing the magnets downward towards the valve seat. When energized, the coils overwhelm the closing force and open the valves. Electronics for the valve block and the coils are provided on a circuit board overlying the pistons and bores. The electronics provide addressability of the valves and automatically generate 'pick' and 'hold' timing whereby the initial motivating force (voltage) applied to the current is higher to get the valves moving quickly when valve is first commanded to open. After a brief period of time, the coil voltage is lowered to a level that provided a lower maintaining force to keep the valve open.

A two-dimensional, high-density, damage-tolerant printed code suitable for encoding multiple biometrics and text for positive off-line identity verification comprises a horizontal header section; a vertical header section; a start pattern; a left row address pattern; an encoded data portion; a right two address pattern; and stop pattern. The horizontal header section encodes the number of bit areas in a transverse row of the encoded data portion; and the vertical header section encodes the vertical height of each bit area. The start and stop patterns of the code demarcate the lateral extent of the code (i.e., the beginning and end) from the adjacent quiet zone. Information is encoded into the ended information portion in bit areas that may be printed or blank. The information is encoded sequentially in the information portion from the top of the encoded information portion along each transverse row of bit areas to the next row of bit areas until the end of the encoded information portion. Error correction is applied to subunits of information from the encoded information portion by dividing the user messages and applying error correction to subunits of the user message. The two-dimensional, high-density, damage-tolerant printed code is suitable for printed on a conventionally sized ISO cord or other papers used in verifying identity. An ISO-sized cord or other identity paper bearing a two-dimensional, high-density, damage-tolerant printed code encoding multiple biometrics, e.g., encoded image likeness and multiple finger print templates, maybe used with an off-line integrated positive identity verification apparatus that is capable of decoding the image and fingerprint samples taken from an individual whose identity is sought to be verified.

A printer processor in which accuracy of a printed image is essential. The printer processor receives exact pixel characteristics from a target printer, and instructs the target printer to exactly reproduce the desired image after eliminating any distortions introduced by scaling or rotational factors.

An integrated circuit communication interface device includes data bus terminals, a serial output terminal, a serial input terminal, and an internal data bus. A data bus buffer connects the data bus terminals to the internal data bus. A transmit buffer connects the serial output terminal to the internal data bus. A receive buffer connects the serial input terminal to the internal data bus. Control circuitry controls the buffer so that the device receives or transmits data in either the Echoplex protocol or the RS 232 protocol. The device includes a data register which is programmed to select the device's mode of operation.

Two spaced-apart outer elements are adapted to be excited by an oscillator. An inner element is disposed therebetween and provides a signal indicative of its spacing relative to the other elements. The signal is processed to determine this position. The elements are arranged on a flexure that is responsive to a load to form a load cell wherein the signal from the inner element is indicative of the magnitude of the load. Various flexure arrangements are disclosed. The elements are preferably parallel plates, having a surface area substantially greater than their separation. In an embodiment of the invention, the inner plate is bifurcated longitudinally, forming two nominally-coplanar inner plates, to offset the effects of off center loading on the flexure with respect to the output of the load cell.
