A pump for solids handling is provided having a suction liner in combination with an impeller. The suction liner has a suction liner spiral design. The impeller has forward curved impeller suction side pump out vanes. The suction liner spiral design and the forward curved impeller suction side pump out vanes are configured to handle solids substantially having a weight concentration (Cw)&#x3c;about 40% and/or a solids size distribution &#x3c;about 200 microns, and to exclude abrasive solids from an impeller/suction side liner gap by increasing the resistance to slurry flow from a high pressure area at the periphery of the impeller periphery, and expel the solids which do manage to enter the impeller/suction side liner gap by guiding the solids away from a suction eye of the impeller, so abrasive erosion is substantially prevented to significantly reduce wear and a tight clearance is substantially maintained at the impeller/suction side liner gap between the impeller and the suction liner, which prevents degradation of pump performance through excessive leakage.

Wear reduction device for rotary solids handling equipment

The invention provides an oil level or condition sensor featuring a housing and a baffle or plate arrangement arranged in the housing, where the baffle or plate arrangement forms a capacitor when the housing is filled with oil, the baffle or plate arrangement being responsive to a signal, for providing an oil level or condition sensor signal containing information about the level or condition of the oil in the housing. The baffle or plate arrangement may include one or more plates or a single or multiple star shaped baffles. The one or more plates or multiple star shaped baffles are spaced apart to form the capacitor. The level or condition of the oil within the baffle or plate arrangement changes the inductance. The single or multiple star shaped baffles each have a small hole in the center which provides a visual indication of the oil level. The housing has a transparent window. The inductance change can be measured and used to send alarms or warnings.

Combined oil level or condition sensor and sight oil level gage

A technique for determining pump flow without using traditional sensors features steps and modules for creating a calibrated power curve at closed valve conditions at several speeds; calculating coefficients from a normalized power curve based on a pump's power ratio; and solving a polynomial power equation for flow at the current operating point. The calibrated power curve may be created by increasing the speed of the pump from a minimum speed to a maximum speed and operating the pump with a closed discharge valve. This data is used to correct published performance for shutoff power and best efficiency point power at rated speed in order to determine the pump's power ratio. It is also used to accurately determine closed valve power at the current operating speed. The pump's power ratio is determined by the equation: P=P/P. The polynomial power equation may, for example, include a 3rd order polynomial equation developed using coefficients from the normalized power versus flow curve, and corrections may be made for speed, hydraulic efficiency and specific gravity in the polynomial power equation. Complex roots may be determined to solve the 3rd order polynomial equation using either Muller's method or some other suitable method, and the calculated actual flow may be determined for a specific operating point.

Method for determining pump flow without the use of traditional sensors

A method and apparatus are provided for obtaining the rotational speed of a pump system or other suitable rotating equipment having a self-contained pump electrical equipment power supply. The method features, before being rectified, directing one phase of AC power through a zero crossing circuit that identifies an instant of time the AC voltage crosses from one polarity to the other polarity and triggers a square wave pulse for each instant time. In operation, the AC voltage is detected when it crosses from a negative polarity to a positive polarity, or vice versa. The method also includes steps for measuring the period of the square wave pulse and calculating the speed of the pump or other rotating equipment.

A controller for controlling operating parameters associated with fluid flow, speed or pressure for a centrifugal pump for pumping fluid, wherein at least one sensor is coupled to the pump for generating a signal indicative of a sensed operating condition. The controller comprises a storage device for storing data indicative of at least one operating condition and a processor in communication with the sensor and operative to perform an algorithm utilizing the at least one sensor signal and the stored data indicative of the at least one operating condition to generate a control signal, wherein the control signal is indicative of a correction factor to be applied to the pump.

A method is provided of identifying a rotating bearing defect featuring the steps of measuring the vibration of the rotating bearing to obtain a waveform signal; filtering the waveform signal to remove unwanted signal frequencies; enveloping the filtered waveform signal to obtain an enveloped low frequency time waveform; and synchronizing the enveloped low frequency time waveform to the running speed of the rotating bearing in such a way to preserve the phase relationship between the tachometer pulse and bearing defect to obtain a time synchronized waveform. The method may include the step of measuring the rotational speed of the rotating bearing; and the step of measuring the rotational speed of the rotating bearing comprises measuring the rotational speed of the rotating bearing with a tachometer.

Determining centrifugal pump suction conditions using non-traditional method

A method and system for determining pump cavitation is disclosed. In accordance with the principle of the invention, changes in dynamic fluid pressure within a pump are monitored and compared to a determined cavitation alarm pressure. The determined cavitation pressure is determined as a known percentage of a known non-cavitation pressure. Fluid cavitation is determined when the change in dynamic fluid pressure falls below the determined cavitation alarm pressure. In a further aspect of the invention, a remaining mechanical seal operational life can be determined by maintaining a total time of fluid cavitation and reducing the expected life by the known operational time of the pump and the time the pump is in cavitation.
