The present disclosure pertains to a system configured to enhance deep sleep in a subject during positive airway pressure therapy. A pressure generator is configured to generate a pressurized flow of breathable gas for delivery to an airway of the subject. Sensors are configured to generate output signals conveying information related to breathing of the subject. One or more hardware processors are configured to cause the pressure generator to generate the pressurized flow of breathable gas in accordance with a positive airway pressure therapy regime based on the information in the output signals; determine sleep stages of the subject based on the information in the output signals; and responsive to the sleep stages indicating the subject is in deep sleep, cause the pressure generator to adjust the pressurized flow of breathable gas to deliver a stimulus to the subject, the stimulus configured to enhance deep sleep in the subject.

Providing sleep therapy with a pressure therapy system

A method for the concurrent treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension in a patient comprises providing a flow of treatment gas to the airway of the patient in accordance with a first set of flow parameters. Determining that the patient has achieved stable breathing while receiving the provided flow of treatment gas in accordance with the first set of parameters. Determining a set of target patient breath parameters from breath data collected from the patient. Adjusting the flow of treatment gas to a different set of flow parameters. Determining that the new patient breath data, collected from the patient, accords with the target patient breath parameters and providing the flow of treatment gas to the patient in accordance with the different set of flow parameters. The target patient breath parameters include a target tidal volume of the patient which is greater than a first tidal volume of the patient.

Systems and methods for concurrent airway stabilization and pulmonary stretch receptor activation

Concurrent treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and hypertension in a patient, via a pressure generating device, includes providing a flow of treatment gas to an airway of a patient in accordance with an initial set of flow parameters with respect to an obstructive sleep apnea mode. Responsive to determining that the patient has achieved stable breathing while receiving the flow of treatment gas, the flow parameters are increased above the initial set of flow parameters with respect to a hyper-ventilation mode. The flow of treatment gas is then provided to the airway of the patient in accordance with the increased flow parameters for a predetermined period of time. The increased flow parameters are configured to bring the patient's breath into accordance with target patient breath parameters configured to inflate the patient's lungs beyond a threshold for activating pulmonary stretch receptors of the airway of the patient.

The present invention relates to a method for re-synchronizing a breathing pattern of a patient () suffering from ataxic breathing, the method including the steps of monitoring the breathing pattern of the patient () during sleep; detecting whether the monitored breathing pattern includes an ataxic breathing episode; and if an ataxic breathing episode is detected, ventilating the patient () and eliminating a spontaneous breathing of the patient () for a predetermined first period of time (&#x394;t) by providing a flow of breathing gas () to an airway of the patient () with a volume of the breathing gas () provided per minute being above an individual-related threshold value of the patient ().

Method and device for treating ataxic breathing

Sleep related conditions of a subject are monitored and/or diagnosed based on both sleep quality and apnea hypopnea index. A first sleep test is performed in which a sleep quality of the subject and an apnea-hypopnea index are determined. A determination is made as to whether results of the first sleep test meet a first condition based on both the sleep quality and apnea-hypopnea index of the subject associated with the first sleep test. Responsive to the results of the first sleep test failing to meet the first condition, a recommendation of a treatment for the subject is provided. An efficacy of the treatment is confirmed in a second sleep test involving the treatment by determining whether results of the second sleep test meet the first condition based on both the sleep quality and apnea-hypopnea index of the subject associated with the second sleep test.

A patient interface of the present invention includes a faceplate including a plurality of headgear attachment elements, a seal member operatively coupled to the faceplate; and an adjustment mechanism coupling the seal member to the faceplate.
