Various types of earth being loaded and spread require different dump openings of the pivoting floor and varying heights of the strikeoff blade which spreads the dumped earth. Heretofore, it has been difficult for the operator of the earthmoving scraper to selectively position the pivoting floor and strikeoff blade to insure a specific dump opening and a specific height of the earth material as it is spread. The present invention provides a switch (36) for controlling the hydraulic cylinder (34) which positions the pivoting floor (26), a switch actuator (66), and a plurality of mounting positions for the switch actuator (66), thereby selectively controlling the dump opening of the pivoting floor (26) and the height of the strikeoff blade (27).

In a self-loading scraper, an elevator is provided with a linkage assembly for upward movement of the elevator about an axis offset from the center of the elevator. Spaced fixed stops are carried by the scraper bowl with a member on a bracket carried by the frame of the elevator engaging one of the fixed stops to limit downward movement of the elevator and a second member is movable with said bracket for engagement with the second fixed stop to limit upward movement of the elevator.

In a self-loading scraper, an elevator is provided with a linkage assembly for upward movement of the elevator about an axis offset from the center of the elevator. Movable stops carried by the elevator engage with spaced, fixed stops carried by the scraper bowl so as to limit the upward and downward movement of the elevator relative to the cutter blade on the bowl.

The second assembly is connected to the end portion of the first assembly and movable between first and second positions. The working member is spaced from the first assembly at the first position and the working member is supported by the first assembly surface at the second position.

The invention is concerned with a transported tractor scraper of the type having a scraper bowl connected to a tractor. The transported tractor scraper comprises a laterally extending draft tube disposed longitudinally between said tractor and said scraper bowl. A pair of spacers are mounted interiorly on a respective sidewall of the scraper bowl. A pair of draft arms are detachably mounted at a first end thereof interiorly on one of the spacers a spaced distance away from a respective sidewall. A generally flat transport bracket is provided detachably interconnected between a second end of each of the draft arms and the draft tube. A method for transporting a tractor scraper of the type having a draft tube and a pair of draft arms interconnecting a scraper bowl to a tractor is disclosed. The method comprises removing the draft arms from the scraper bowl and the tractor; connecting spacers interiorly on each sidewall of the scraper bowl; connecting a first end of each draft arm to a respective spacer a spaced distance away from a respective sidewall; and attaching a second end of each draft arm to said draft tube.

A guard is removably secured to the sidewall at the leading edge of an open-ended scraper bowl of a self-loading scraper and extends inwardly towards an elevator mechanism centrally disposed at the open end of the scraper bowl. The guard is disposed rearwardly of a rod of a hydraulic lift cylinder for shielding the rod from loose noncohesive material in the scraper bowl and for aiding in the retention of such material in the scraper bowl.

In earthmoving equipment, such as a scraper, an adjustable feedthrough protective bit is mounted on each side wall of the bowl in position to protect the leading edges of the bowl in the vicinity of a cutter blade extending between said side walls. Guide straps or abutments are provided on the walls to hold each bit in fixed position on the bowl and a novel arrangement of apertures and openings are provided in each bit and in the wall of the bowl to facilitate effectively securing the bit to the bowl. The bit configurations may be such as to permit end-for-end reversal of orientation of the bit and to provide for use of the bit on either side of the equipment.
