A development system optimized for efficient development of an electrostatic latent image on an imaging surface. The development system includes a development material sump, a magnetic developer roll including a rotatable sleeve having located therein a rotatable magnetic core, and a developer material delivery system for providing a metered supply of developer material to the rotatable sleeve. One or more stationary magnetic shunts are located with respect to the magnetic core, sleeve, and/or developer material delivery system so as to block the magnetic field effective for attracting developer material to the sleeve, thus allowing disengagement of the developer material therefrom at a drop-off zone.

Development system for developing an image on an image bearing member

A donor structure for developing toner images to an image receiving surface, said structure including a core structure; end caps including journal portions attached to said core structure;a bearing for operatively supporting said donor structure in an imaging device; and electrically isolating coatings carried by said journal portions, said electrically isolating coatings being interposed between said journal portions and said bearings.

An imaging module mounting structure is used for mounting an imaging module to an imaging device that has a support member and a rotatable photoreceptor. The imaging module includes an imaging bar and a corona generating device. The imaging module mounting structure includes a pair of pivot block devices which are pivotably connected to the support member in a spaced apart relationship. The imaging bar and the corona generating device are secured to each one of the pair of pivot block devices. Each pivot block device includes a cam follower element. The pair of pivot block devices are operative to flex independently of one another while the photoreceptor rotates so that the respective cam follower elements remain in contact with the rotating photoreceptor to compensate for photoreceptor run out. A method for practicing the present invention is also described.

Imaging module mounting structure

A tension support mounting for applying tension to the corona generating electrode of a corona generating device. A corona generating electrode is placed in cooperative engagement with a fixedly mounted end block via a torsion spring member mounted on the endblock.

A sheet cutting apparatus is provided for cutting sheets from one or more media supply rolls. A rotary cutter bar cooperates with a stationary bar to sever the media as it is fed between the two bars. The rotary cutter bar is driven by a motor whose output is monitored by a speed control circuit. During a cut cycle, the motor speed may decrease with an increasing load caused, for example, by a thicker weight media being cut. Uncorrected, the motor speed would decrease, causing a deviation in the straightness of the cut. The speed control circuit senses the changes from the normal speed of the motor during the cutting cycle and generates a feedback signal to the motor to raise the speed to the operation level.

Sheet cutting apparatus

A low cost document stacking apparatus that passively collects and collates engineering size drawing originals after they have been scanned by use of a catch tray which has two bins. One bin is used to catch 'C' and 'D' size documents and the other bin catches 'E' and larger sized documents. A diverter directs documents to either of the two bins depending on the length of document being scanned.

A developer housing of an electrostatographic reproducing machine of the type using a magnet roll is provided with two openings in at least one of its side walls. The first of these holes is located at the high pressure portion of the housing, and the second of the holes is located at the low pressure end of the housing. The holes are interconnected by a pneumatic duct. A pressure differential is created as vane-like whiskers of developer are rotated about the magnet roll. The duct neutralizes these pressure differentials within the developer housing, thus preventing toner from being blown out of the developer housing.

A reproducing machine has a rotatable toner supply cartridge which dispenses toner into a developer sump, the cartridge being inclined at an angle with respect to the horizontal axis so as to dispense toner assisted by gravity, in controlled amounts only from a dispense port at the end of the cartridge extending below the horizontal. The supply cartridge is modified by the addition of an end cap assembly which incorporates a scoop member which picks up and stores a quantity of toner during rotation. A cog wheel is mounted on the outside of the end cap assembly and is attached to a shaft extending through the end cap assembly. The cog wheel interacts with stepping pins to enable a dispense operation from the scoop member.

A reproduction machine having a rotatable toner supply cartridge which dispenses toner into a developer sump, the cartridge being inclined at an angle with respect to the horizontal axis so as to dispense toner, assisted by gravity in controlled amounts only from the end of the cartridge extending beneath the horizontal.

A reproduction machine having a recording member, a developer housing with sump, a magnetic brush roll for bringing developer from the sump into developing relation with the recording member, a stripper plate in the developer housing for removing returning developer from the magnetic brush roll, the stripper plate being inclined and having a row if holes extending thereacross to allow the removed developer on the stripper plate to pass to the sump, and a chevron above the row of holes and closely spaced to the surface of the stripper plate for intermixing the removed developer as the developer is returning to the sump.

Developer system for reproduction and printing machines

A reproduction machine having a rotatable toner supply cartridge, a row of toner discharge ports in the cartridge, a toner ejecting rod with flats opposite each port, and a cam drive for quickly rotating the rod to temporarily causing the flats to face outwardly into the machine developer housing so as to dump the controlled amount of toner on the each flat into the developer housing. In an alternate embodiment, the ejecting rod is replaced by a reciprocable slide plate having row of openings which match with the toner discharge ports, and a cam drive for temporarily moving the plate to match the plate openings with the toner discharge ports and discharge a controlled amount of toner into the developer housing.
