Anionically dyeable smooth-dry crosslinked cellulose is produced by modifying cellulose-containing material with the combination of a hydroxyalkylamine or a hydroxyalkyl quaternary ammonium salt, a methylolamide crosslinking agent and one or more reactively inert glycol ether swelling agents. Cellulosic fibers are converted to cellulosate by immersion in an alkali metal hydroxide and then reacted with an aqueous solution of thioarylsulfonium salts to produce modified cellulosic fibers which are substantive to acid, direct, disperse, reactive and sulfur dyes. Cellulosic/synthetic and cellulosic/wool blends can also be treated to produce a fabric blend comprising modified cellulosic components that are substantive to diverse dye classes and synthetic and wool components which are substantive to a single dye class. Cellulosic materials, such as cotton fabrics, can be colored insitu by first treating the fabric with N-phenyldiethanolamine and a crosslinking agent for cellulose, such as dimethylol dihydroxyethyleneurea. After the fabric has been cured it is then colored by treating with sufficient concentrations of nitrous acid to form the colored nitroso derivative of the tertiary aromatic amine. The colors obtained are shades of green and yellow which are determined by: concentration of the N-phenyldiethanolamine; type of crosslinking agent; strength of the nitrous acid, and reaction times.

Method for insitu coloring crosslinked cellulosic materials

This invention provides a method for the treatment of cellulose containing fabrics with inorganic phosphorylating agents to obtain durable press or smooth drying fabrics. The method involves treating the cellulose-containing material with 8-16% of an inorganic phosphate, 16-32% of urea, 0.5-2.0% of a catronically emulsified polyethylene fabric softener, 0-6% of a polyacrylate or suitable polymer emulsion (glass transition temperature: -20.degree. to -43.degree. C.), and then drying the fabric at 60.degree.-100.degree. C. for 3-7 minutes. The fabric is crosslinked to obtain durable press or smooth drying properties by curing at 160.degree.-170.degree. C. for 3-9 minutes.

Process for producing durable press fabrics through phosphorylation

This invention relates to the transfer printing of cellulosic fabric by in situ polymerization of monomers to form polyamides and polyesters. The process involves treating the fabric with a diamine or bisphenol and then treating with a diacid chloride, drying, rinsing with neutralizing agent, and then heat transfer printing the fabric after drying. The reverse procedure can also be employed in which case the fabric is treated initially with the diacid chloride.

Process for modifying cellulosic fabrics for improved heat transfer

A process is disclosed for the heat transfer printing of cellulose-containing fabrics in garment form with disperse dyestuffs, wherein the fabric is treated only on one side by a printing or spraying technique with a formulation containing highly methylated melamine-formaldehyde crosslinking agent, acid catalyst, and other necessary additives. Fabrics with prints that are durable to washing are produced by simultaneously heat transfer printing and curing at about 190.degree. C. to 220.degree. C. for 20-30 seconds.

Process for producing transfer printed cotton and cotton blends

The dyeing of cotton in glycol and glycol ether solvents containing direct or sulfur dyes is disclosed. Prior to dyeing, the fabric is treated with an aqueous solution to swell the fibers. When the pretreated cotton is dyed in solvent containing 0.25% to 2% potassium thiocyanate it results in improved color saturation. The instant invention is extremely effective for either cotton or cotton/polyester blends.

Dyeing of cellulose-containing textiles in glycol and glycol ether

This invention relates to fabric treatments by which cotton and cellulosic blended fabrics can be provided with wrinkle resistance (smooth dry performance) and color at the same time. In particular, it provides a means by which cellulosic fabrics can be dyed with basic dyestuffs. In addition to a conventional means by which the entire fabric can be dyed with a basic dye, variations are achieved in which one side of the fabric is dyed one color and the other side of the fabric is dyed a second color.
