Unsaturated polyester resins are rendered less brittle without significantly deteriorating other physical properties by reacting therewith 0.1 to 25 parts of a carboxyl terminated reactive liquid polymer, preferably poly(butadiene-acrylonitrile), per 100 parts of the polyester resin.

Toughened polyester resins

Unsaturated polyester resins are rendered less brittle without deteriorating other properties thereof by mixing therewith 0.1 to 20 parts of a vinyl terminated reactive liquid polymer per 100 parts of the polyester resin.

Polyester resins toughened with vinyl terminated liquid polymers

Molding compositions containing a divinyl polyester resin, a polymerizable monomer, an epihalohydrin and, optionally, catalyst and other additives. The epihalohydrin improves the toughness of the divinyl polyester molding compositions.

Divinyl polyester molding compositions

Hard and strong epoxy resin products of high impact resistance are made from a di-epoxy compound, a smaller than equivalent proportion of a dicarboxylic acid which functions as a chain extender, and a bifunctional liquid elastomer, together with a curing agent active at elevated temperatures. Preferably the quantity of bifunctional liquid elastomer is about 5 to 10% of the amount of the di-epoxy compound.

Unsaturated molding compositions containing an unsaturated polyester resin, a polymerizable monomer, an epihalohydrin polymer, and optionally, reinforcing fibers, catalyst, thermoplastic polymers, thickening agent and fillers. The epihalohydrin polymer improves the toughness of the molding composition.

Unsaturated polyester molding compositions

Hard and strong epoxy resin products of high impact resistance are made from a di-epoxy compound, a smaller than equivalent proportion of chain extender which is preferably a bis-phenol, and about 5% (based on the amount of the di-epoxy compound) of a functionally terminated elastomer which is preferably a phenol terminated liquid copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, together with a curing agent active at elevated temperatures.
