A compactor that compresses the springs in at least two, preferably three different directions. One compression is achieved through actuation of a crush chamber door. At least two of the three directions of compression are perpendicular to an axis through the springs. After the final compression is performed, the compressed springs are discharged from the crush chamber in a direction parallel to the direction of the final compression.

An apparatus for removing hair from a drain consists of an elongate, flexible strip with an attached handle. A number of barbed portions are dispersed along the length of the flexible strip, with the barbed portions alternating along the two sides of the strip. The barbed portions are oriented at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the strip, with the vertex of the angle pointing away from the handle. The barbed portions serve to grip hair in the drain, the hair being removed when the device is removed from the drain.

A preferred embodiment of the present invention is a mobile sign with a solar panel for warning motorists of highway problems. The mobile sign comprises support structure configured as a wheeled vehicle. In preferred embodiments, the sign panel comprises an enclosure or housing having a front transparent panel, a multiplicity of LED's in a matrixical arrangement for generating electronically changeable messages mounted in the enclosure and spaced from the front panel, and a pattern of opaque material, for example paint, applied on the exterior of the front transparent panel defining a plurality of windows for passing light therethrough. In a preferred embodiment, the windows will be in a matrixical arrangement comprising a plurality of rows and columns of individual LED's or rows and columns of groupings of LEDs.

A wheel crushing apparatus for crushing scrap vehicle wheels to prepare the scrap wheels for recycling, the scrap wheels having a tire mounted on the wheel, consists of an engine, a hydraulic pump driven by the engine, a single hydraulic cylinder and piston driven by the hydraulic pump, a crushing head to hold the wheel and tire for crushing the wheel, a number of crushing arms concentric about the crushing head, and radially movable between an extended position wherein the crushing arms contact the tire tread and a contracted position wherein the wheel is crushed, and a linkage connecting all of the crushing arms to the single hydraulic piston, so that all of the crushing arms are driven by the single hydraulic piston between the extended position and the contracted position.

A mobile sign with a solar panel for warning motorists of highway problems. The mobile sign comprises a wheeled vehicle, an electrically powered sign panel mounted on the wheeled vehicle, a chargeable battery for powering the sign panel, and a solar panel for charging the battery. The solar panel is rotatable and tiltable relative to the wheeled vehicle. The sign panel is independently rotatable relative to the wheeled vehicle. The sign panel has a low-glare, high-contrast display that also improves the lifetime of the display's electronic or mechanical components by reducing heating of the display due to the sun.

A trailer mounted apparatus for use along roadways and convertible between a folded-transport position and an erected-operational position. When in the operating position, one signal unit is elevated on the side of the roadway, and another signal unit is elevated over a traffic lane at sufficient height so as to not pose a hazard to traffic. The apparatus has a fixed upright mast with a hinged mast extension which angles upwardly and laterally away from the top of the upright mast. A foldable arm with inner and outer arm portions is hinged to the top portion of the mast extension. When in the erected position alongside a roadway, the mast extension elevates the foldable arm which extends from the top portion of the mast extension across the trailer and out and over the traffic lane. One signal unit is attached to the outer end of the foldable arm and the other unit is attached to the mast extension. In the transport position the mast extension, the foldable arm, and the signal units lie horizontally and compactly folded within the confines of the trailer. Hydraulic cylinders are utilized to raise and lower the mast extension with respect to the mast, and the foldable arm with respect to the mast extension. A rigid link unfolds and folds the foldable arm as the foldable arm is raised and lowered.

A highway marker manipulating apparatus comprising a pair of gripper wheels spaced apart to engage and apply pressure onto the side edges of the base flange of a highway marker. The wheels are spaced apart by a loading magazine between the wheels and directing the marker flanges into gripped engagement with the gripping faces of the opposing wheels; and a guide panel between the outer portions of the wheels to guide the flanges of the markers being retrieved off the pavement. A stripper guide is provided between the wheels for urging the flanges of the markers toward the outer periphery of the wheels as the flanges are also engaging the peripherally extending guide panels as to turn the markers and move the markers along the stripper bars which carry the markers to the upper periphery of the wheels. Stabilizing guides or runners are provided to be removably mounted at the lower portion of the gripper wheels to receive the flanges of dispensed markers therebeneath for stabilizing the markers on the pavement.

Method and apparatus for dispensing and retrieving highway warning

A highway marker cone dispenser and collector is provided. A rotatable cone conveyor moves the cones between upper and lower locations, the lower location being near the ground, and has a cone stripper for removing cones from the conveyor at either the upper or lower location. The device may be vehicle mounted for simultaneous rotational and translational movement.

A crossbow having a bow prod with a string attached to its opposite ends, engageable by a releasable catch for holding the string at a cocked position spaced rearwardly from the bow prod. The releasable catch is mounted to a cocking mechanism that is slidably movable along a rod, the fore end portion of which is connected to the midsection of the bow prod. The cocking mechanism, when adjacent to the fore end portion of the rod, permits the bowstring to be drawn back by means of a mechanical leverage advantage obtained from the cocking mechanism.

A fried pizza crust and a complete pizza product are produced with a method in which perforations are formed in a pizza dough sheet by removing small plugs of dough. Each perforated dough piece is then submerged in a hot oil bath until the crust is fried. The fried crust is removed from the oil and drained, after which it is topped with sauce. The sauce flows into funnel shaped depressions formed over each perforation, some of the sauce flowing through the perforations before congealing. Other topping materials are then applied to the sauce covered crust. The finally topped pizza includes small pools of sauce and flavor enhanced crust areas.
