A disposable, one-piece cap for a liquid container includes a frangible septum which allows easy penetration by a syringe needle to permit withdrawal of the liquid. The septum includes a plurality of grooves which are thinner than the thickness of the remainder of the septum to facilitate tearing of the septum as the needle penetrates. Such tearing prevents a seal from forming around the needle and thus allows air to enter the container avoiding problems associated with the formation of a partial vacuum within the container as the sample is withdrawn.

A recording device for recording information from a remote source on a continuously moving material sheet including an improved printing head construction for printing indicia and other characters thereon for identifying such information. The recording device also includes a novel mechanism for supporting and disposing the sheet initially in a storage or rest position through and to a position wherein such sheet is in operative contact with essential portions of the device including printing means, recording means, and means for advancing the sheet through such device.

Recording device

A disposable applicator card formed of an absorbent backing, to one flat surface of which one or more compressible tubes are affixed. The tubes extend beyond one edge of the backing and are disposed so as to accept a quantity of fluid therein and thereafter to dispense at least a portion of such fluid. Means for aligning the card in connection with utilization means is also provided.

Applicator card

A fluid dispensing device suitable for accepting one or more discrete quantities of test fluids and thereafter dispensing predetermined quantities of such fluid or fluids to a test vehicle. The device operates on a disposable applicator card containing one or more compressible tubes which are filled with such fluid or fluids from a sample tray by peristaltic-like action. The dispensing device permits proper alignment with respect to one another of the sample tray, disposable applicator card, test vehicle, and all components of the device itself.
