The following embodiments relate to a single air disc brake tappet with features that mimic multiple tappets. In one embodiment, an air disc brake tappet is provided comprising: a support member; and a plate coupled with support member, wherein the plate comprises a plurality of raised features that mimic a plurality of air disc brake tappets. In another embodiment, an air disc brake pad assembly is provided comprising: a friction material; and a backing plate coupled with the friction material, wherein the backing plate comprises at least one recess shaped and positioned to receive a plurality of raised features of an air disc brake tappet, wherein the plurality of raised features mimics a plurality of air disc brake tappets. Other embodiments are provided.

Single air disc brake tappet with features that mimic multiple tappets

An actuation mechanism for a valve comprises a first member having a generally spherical surface on a first side of a bisecting line and a generally ellipsoidal surface on a second side of the bisecting line. The first member is rotatable around a central point of the bisecting line. The valve has a second member with a truncated ellipsoidal surface on both sides of a bisecting line. The second member matingly engages the first member at the first member ellipsoidal surface. The valve also includes a longitudinal member coupled to the second member and a biasing member coupled to the longitudinal member. The first member is rotated around the central point from a first position to a second position to move the second member and the longitudinal member linearly. The biasing member returns the first member and second member to the first position upon release of the first member.

A brake actuator is provided, in which a diaphragm, used in conjunction with a piston which compresses a parking brake-actuating spring, is arranged such that its outer peripheral region is captured between opposing housing flange portions such that a seal between the interior and exterior of the brake actuator housing is provided in a radially-oriented region of the diaphragm and the housing flange portions away from housing portion jointing components such as a clamp ring or individual fasteners. The diaphragm may also be provided with a wedge-shaped portion at its outer periphery which is axially oriented and configured to reside in a corresponding annular gap between the opposing housing flange portions.

Spring brake actuator and method for making a spring brake actuator

An air dryer cartridgeconfigured for use on both conventional air dryer systems having internal purge air valving and newer air dryer systems wherein at least some of the purge air valving is located in the cartridge. The air dryer cartridgehas a first connectorfor mating with a corresponding connector of a conventional air dryer system, and a second connectorfor mating with a corresponding connector of a newer-style air dryer system. When the cartridgeis installed on a conventional air dryer system, purge air valvingwithin the cartridge is deactivated causing the cartridge to act as a conventional air dryer cartridge. When the cartridgeis installed in a newer-style system, the purge air valvingwithin the cartridge is activated thus enabling the system to function as designed.

A cartridge for an air dryer includes a desiccant volume, a desiccant in the desiccant volume for removing at least one of moisture and contaminants from air, a first passage in fluid communication with the desiccant volume and a first air storage volume, a second passage in fluid communication with the desiccant volume and in fluid communication with a second air storage volume, and a valve which, in a first position, restricts the fluid communication between the desiccant volume and the first air storage volume.
