A roll including a flexible roll covering, the roll covering being rotatably arranged about a carrier and journalled on the carrier via a plurality of at least one of hydrodynamically and hydrostatically lubricated support elements, wherein support areas of at least axially adjacent support elements are closely adjacently adjoined and wherein lateral boundaries of the support areas of the axially adjacent support elements overlap with reference to a circumferential direction of the roll, with the support of the roll covering being evened out without resulting in the jamming or canting of the support elements, this being accomplished in that the support areas of the support elements are symmetrically formed transverse or cross-wise relative to the roll axis of the roll.

A press roll contains a stationary carrier, a jacket tube with a roll jacket and a plurality of pneumatically loadable rollers in order to support the roll jacket at the press position on the carrier. The press roll is especially suited for use as an F-roll or as a K-roll in machines for treating web-like or plate-like material, for example printing machines, textile machines or the like.

An adjustable deflection roll includes a fixed support having a center axial bore. A roll is rotatably mounted about the fixed support. The roll sleeve is supported on support elements. The support elements are actuated by a pressure fluid. The support elements form a plurality of pressure zones. Each of the pressure zones are independently fed with pressure fluid at an independent predetermined pressure by feeder tubes which are disposed in the center axial bore of the fixed support. The feeder tubes are connected to supply lines at one axial end of the fixed support. A plurality of divider walls are disposed in the bore to separate the sections of the bore into the plurality of pressure zones. At least one of the plurality of feeder tubes has an opening in each of the plurality of zones. Each of the plurality of divider walls is formed by at least two disks, which are axially spaced apart at a predetermined distance from each other. The plurality of feeder tubes pass through the at least two disks. The at least two disks fix a position of each of the plurality of feeder tubes. A space disposed between each of the at least two disks is filled, in a pressure-tight manner, with a casting compound.

A machine for the manufacture of chipboards or fibreboards comprises a pressure drum (1) and an endless steel belt (2) which wraps the pressure drum (1) around part of its periphery and forms there a compacting line (P) in which is for a sufficiently long time compacted and cured, by the action of pressure and temperature, material which is brought into it and which comprises lignocellulose or cellulose, is reduced to chips or fibres and is provided with an adhesive curable by heat. The compacting pressure and the heating are produced by extensive pressure shoes (10, 13, 14, 15) comprising a hydrostatic bearing pocket (11) supplied with hot pressurised oil. The pressure drum (1) is provided with a non-rotatable carrier (19) and a jacket (20) which is rotatable about it and is supported by supporting elements (21) supplied with hot pressurised oil, so that the jacket (20) is simultaneously heated and adjustable pressure forces without bearing loading are produced, while a uniform smooth gap is obtained.

In a rotary printing press with a printing cylinder and a counter roller, such as an impression cylinder, for example, and a print web guided between them, faultless print quality across the entire width is attained, even with an extremely wide print web and a correspondingly slim printing cylinder. The printing cylinder is provided with a fixed support and a jacket, which is rotatable around it, and is supported by a row of support elements with a printing pressure which is controlled individually or in groups. With this arrangement, a uniform printing pressure profile across the print web width and, simultaneously, a print gap which is generally uniform are attained. Deformations and displacements of the printing cylinder jacket cross-wise to the printing plane are avoided in that additional cross-bracing elements for exerting a restoring force on the printing cylinder jacket cross-wise to the printing plane are provided. The restoring force of the cross-bracing elements is controlled by position sensors or bearing pressure sensors in such a way that the position of the printing cylinder jacket is maintained even with particularly lengthy and slim printing cylinders. Oscillations of the printing cylinder are prevented by hydrostatic support elements which have a damping effect.

Rotary printing press

A printing cylinder for a rotary printing press has a support, which is fixed against relative rotation, and a jacket rotatable around the latter, which is supported by a row of support elements, disposed axially side-by-side and individually controllable and radially displaceable at least in part in order to attain an even printing pressure across the width of the cylinder while avoiding any bending of the jacket. The jacket is constructed of three coaxial tubes, an interior tube, a filler body and a printing forme support, at least two of which, or even all three, in the rest state, are separated by a small gap so that they can be easily pulled off each other and exchanged in order to change the printing press over to another print pattern or another diameter or register. By charging the sealed interior chamber with pressure, for example with the use of the fluid pressure required for the support elements, the gap(s) are closed, so that the individual jacket parts have a press fit with each other and rotate together. By reducing the interior pressure to lower pressures, for example atmospheric pressure or a partial vacuum, it is possible to open the gap(s) again selectively.

Printing cylinder of a rotary printing press and a method for use

In the plastic foil-producing apparatus where a fluent plastic mass is cooled in a roll nip between a roller member and a counter roller to a defined predetermined solidification temperature, the roller member includes a non-rotatable support member and a rotatable roller shell supported at the non-rotatable support member by one or more support elements. The roller shell includes a plurality of coaxial zones, namely, an inner soft rubber zone and a thin outer metallic zone possessing good thermal conductivity, for example, formed of copper or silver or alloys thereof, the outer surface of which is mirror smooth, for instance, chromium plated. The roller surface is cooled by cooling gas nozzles regulated by a temperature sensor, so that the temperature of the roller member in the roll nip assumes an exactly defined temperature. Consequently, there can be fabricated a plastic foil, for example, formed of polyethylene having a narrow solidification temperature range and possessing a defined thickness profile while preventing sticking of the plastic foil at the outer surface of the roller member.

Apparatus and method for producing plastic foils

Apparatus and process are provided wherein pressure is exerted on a web by at least two rollers. One roller includes a roll shell which is rotatable around a stationary beam, wherein the roll shell is supported against the beam by hydraulic operational support elements on the side of the press, as well as by counterpressure elements exerting pressure in the opposite direction. A particularly rapid and safe opening of the roller device, without damaging the supporting elements or the roll shell because of detached supporting elements, is achieved because the hydraulic pressure medium from the pressure areas of at least part of the operational support elements is routed as directly as possible without detours to the pressure areas of counterpressure elements, such as by a multiple sliding valve located at the beam end.

Method and apparatus for rolling continuous material

In a controlled deflection roll having a roll shell rotatable about a stationary carrier and braced by one or more support elements against the stationary carrier, the roll shell comprises an inner roll shell part and an outer roll shell part which, during operation of the controlled deflection roll, form a press or force fit with respect to one another, for instance, due to excess pressure in the interior of the controlled deflection roll or due to elastic pre-biasing of the parts of the roll shell. Upon pressure relief or the existence of negative pressure within the controlled deflection roll a play or clearance is formed between the outer roll shell part and the inner roll shell part of the roll shell which enables dismantling and exchange of the outer roll shell part of the roll shell without the need to dismantle the controlled deflection roll or to remove such from the machine.

Within the impression cylinder of a rotogravure press and within the roll shell thereof there are provided over the width of the impression cylinder a number of layer packages which can be separately supplied with electrical charge in order to apply electrostatic charges to the impression cylinder surface for the purpose of augmenting printing of a material web. By differently controlling segments of the impression cylinder, there can be accommodated different widths of the material web to be processed. In order to concentrate the electric charge at the actually used region of the impression cylinder and for protecting the zones of the impression cylinder which are not currently being used, there are provided internally of the roll jacket, in axial direction thereof, a number of support elements arranged adjacent one another and braced against a central carrier. These support elements are controlled such that only the support elements in those segments, where there is also supplied electrical charge, exert a pressing force. At the end regions of the impression cylinder, there can be provided counter support elements which are only controlled when there is not applied any electrostatic charge at the end regions of the impression cylinder, in other words, when printing a narrower material web. Hence, in this situation no electrical charge is transferred at the not used roll end regions and the impression cylinder is protected against wear and abrasion.

The present invention is directed to a heated sag-compensation roller, with short heat-up and cool-down times and a more even temperature distribution, which reduces the risk of damage to the roller shell. These improvement are achieved by the roller shell being heated or cooled from the inside and the outside simultaneously. The heating devices can be controlled so that the temperature difference between the inside and outside does not exceed a particular value.

The controlled deflection roll comprises a stationary, non-rotating roll support member and a roll shell mounted to rotate about the stationary roll support member. The roll shell is not directly supported at the stationary roll support member by means of hydraulic support elements, but through the intermediary of additionally provided traveling rings each of which defines a travel path for the related hydraulic support element. The traveling rings have an outer diameter slightly smaller than the inner diameter of the roll shell and they are arranged to be rotatable independently of the roll shell. During operation of the controlled deflection roll the traveling rings, therefore, roll along the inner surface of the roll shell. As a result, the flexibility of the roll shell is improved in circumferential direction as well as transversely to the pressing line of the controlled deflection roller. In this arrangement stiffness of the roll shell in circumferential direction is insured by the traveling rings. Undue deformations of the roll shell are thereby prevented and the force requirements are reduced.
