An approach is presented for sharing user information among devices. The identity discovery module determines one or more user identifiers. Further, the identity discovery module determines to generate a first device identifier based, at least in part, on the one or more user identifiers. Then, the identity discovery module determines to present the first device identifier in place of a second identifier as a discoverable identity of a device.

Method and apparatus for sharing user information

A method comprising: while in a first communication mode that uses scheduled communication, detecting when a number of packets communicated in an interval exceeds a threshold; and if the number of packets communicated in the interval exceeds the threshold, changing the communication mode from the first communication mode to a second communication mode that uses unscheduled communication and if the number of packets communicated in the interval does not exceed the threshold, remaining in the first communication mode.

A method of allocating a communications channel to a data transfer session, the method including during the data transfer session: sending a first data transfer session packet via the communications channel then sending an additional packet or packets, that are not a part of the data transfer session, via the communications channel to hold the communications channel for the data transfer session.
