An information handling system includes a capacitor, an antenna, a wireless wide area network card, an embedded display port interface, and a digital-to-analog converter. The capacitor has a variable capacitance that varies based on a voltage applied to the capacitor. The antenna is coupled to the capacitor, and has a variable resonance frequency that is based on the variable capacitance. The wireless wide area network card is in communication with the antenna, and is configured to set the variable resonance frequency to a specific frequency based on a control signal. The embedded display port interface is configured to transmit the control signal from the wireless wide area network card to a display control circuit via an auxiliary channel of the embedded display port interface. The digital-to-analog converter is in communication with the display control circuit, and is configured to provide the voltage to the capacitor in response to a signal from the display control circuit.

A field-sequential display is operated in one of a color mode or a grayscale mode. In the color mode, a video source provides image content in the form of multiple-color image data having a frame rate of X Hz and a display controller uses the multiple-color image data to drive the field-sequential display so as provide multiple-color image content at the field-sequential display. In the grayscale mode, the display controller generates grayscale image data from the multiple-color image data and the display controller then drives the field-sequential display with the grayscale image data at a lower frame rate of Y Hz. While in the grayscale mode, the display controller can take advantage of the enhanced contrast provided by the grayscale image content to reduce or disable backlighting at the field-sequential display. The reduced timing requirements afforded by the lower frame rate, as well as the reduction or elimination of backlighting, can reduce power consumption compared to the color mode.

A method for implementing a user selectable white level includes displaying a default white patch of a default shade of white on a display, displaying a modified white patch of a modified shade of white that is different than the default shade of white on the display, receiving a selection of the modified white patch, associating another default shade of white with the modified shade of white in response to receiving the selection, receiving pixel data for a pixel, the pixel data comprising color information for displaying the default shade of white, and displaying the pixel with the second default shade of white.

Methods and systems for controlling a power inverter are provided. In accordance with one embodiment, a system for converting a direct current into an alternating current may include a switching module, a sensing module, and a control module. The switching module may have an input and an output, and may be operable to receive a direct current at the input and to generate at the output a corresponding alternating current with a desired output characteristic. The sensing module may be coupled to the switching module output, and may be operable to sense a power factor associated with a load coupled to the switching module output. The control module may be coupled to the power inverter and the sensing module, and may be operable to control the desired output characteristic based at least on the sensed power factor.

Image quality and power management associated with a LCD panel are balanced with selective enabling and disabling of response time compensation to selection of liquid crystal material states. A power manager disables overdrive voltages for response time compensation with one or more predetermined conditions, such as reliance on internal power or display of non-moving graphics, and enables overdrive voltages with other predetermined conditions, such as reliance on external power or display of moving graphics. Selective enabling and disabling of response time compensation for setting liquid crystal material states ensures highest quality video graphics with appropriate images while reducing unnecessary power consumption when high quality video graphics provide less benefit, such as with lower quality images.

System and method for managing information handling system display response time

A method and system selects between a LED light source and an electroflorescent light source, such as a CCFL light source, to illuminate a LCD panel that displays information generated by an information handling system. A light source controller selects one or both of LED and CCFL light sources to illuminate the LCD panel based on one or more predetermined factors, such as the power consumption of the light source for a selected display brightness. In one embodiment, the light source controller preserves battery power of a portable information handling system by selection of one of the light sources based on a determination of which light source will consume the least power for a selected display brightness level.
