An electrical igniter cap has a reproducible igniter characteristic by virtue of the fact that, at the firing side, an igniter unit is covered by a sheeting of plastic material which is rupture-resistant but tears quickly, and also at the firing side it bears against a sieve plate with defined hole cross-sections.

After the pressure of the gas in a first chamber reaches the maximum value, the cover for the air bag is broken up. The cover is broken at the pressure of the maximum value, and there is almost no waste of the gas energy. Thus, the cover can be broken up by the small amount of the gas energy and the heat losses are extremely reduced, so that the amount of the gas generating agents are made small. Also, the cover is broken by the burning of the first chamber and the air bag is inflated at the first stage by expansion and inertia of the gas. There is provided a mechanical timing for ignition delay, and then the bag is fully inflated by the burning of a second chamber. Therefore, the bag can be desirably inflated.

Multiple stage airbag gas generator

A pyrotechnic mixture in the form of granulates, encompassing a nitrogen-generating substance, an inorganic oxidizing medium and a binder constituted of silicone rubber. Also disclosed is a process for the production of this pyrotechnic mixture, as well as a gas generator for an airbag which contains the pyrotechnic mixture as a propellent charge. The pyrotechnic mixture is in the form of granulates for a propellent charge which generates a non-toxic gas, encompassing the nitrogen-generating substance, especially an alkali metal azide or earth alkali metal azide, an inorganic oxidizing medium consisting of alkali metal nitrate and/or alkaline earth metal nitrate and silicone rubber.

Pyrotechnic mixture and gas generator for an airbag

A gas generator for an airbag which contains the pyrotechnic mixture as a propellent charge. The propellent charge is in the form of granulates which generate a non-toxic gas. A space encompasses the container for the propellant charge and is separated from the airbag by a gas-permeable separator so as to generate a higher pressure in the space than in the airbag during inflation of the airbag.

A gas generator for an airbag, including a gas-generating material which is based on an azide, an ignition device and at least a single ply or layer consisting of a sieve-netting or mesh fabric. The gas-generating material or compound together with the ignition device are arranged in either a gas-tight and heat-resistant, flexible or elastic, non-fragmenting high-pressure component with gas pressure-dependently opening rupturing or breaking locations, such as a high-pressure bag or pouch constituted from a pressure-and tear-resistant fabric, or from a high-pressure container, and wherein the rupturing or breaking locations of the high-pressure component communicate with a low-pressure bag or pouch constituted from a tear-resistant fabric with outflow or discharge apertures or windows.

Gas generator for an airbag

Detonators, such as electrical, mechanical and flame-sensitive detonators, and the production thereof, for utilization at low and high temperatures through the use of explosives with high temperature-resistant, thermoplastic materials as binder mediums. The explosive is present as a ruboff-resistant shaped member in cylindrical form or within a cup, while the primary igniting medium in the detonator housing is compressed alone or through the shaped member.
