The present invention provides a light-emitting device including a substrate, a first EL element, and a second EL element, the first EL element and the second EL element each including a lower electrode, an organic compound layer including a light-emitting layer, an upper electrode, and a color filter in this order from the substrate, and an insulating layer that covers an end portion of the lower electrode. A first color filter of the first EL element and a second color filter of the second EL element overlap each other when viewed in plan in an overlapping region, and an inclined portion closest to the first EL element among inclined portions of the insulating layer of the second EL element and the overlapping region overlap each other when viewed in plan.

Light-emitting device, display apparatus, and image pickup apparatus

A movable particle display (such as an electrophoretic display) in which a plurality of closed spaces are two-dimensionally disposed along a surface of the substrate, a plurality of particles contained in each of the closed spaces, and a reflection surface for reflecting light which enters each of the closed particles are moved inside a closed space, between a position at which they cover a reflecting surface and a position at which they are collected to expose the reflecting surface. At least a part of the reflecting surface diffusely reflects incident light with an intensity distribution having directional properties (i.e. non-isotropically). The intensity of the diffusely reflected light has an angular distribution such that: (1) the amount of light reflected toward the position at which the particles are collected is smaller than in the case when the distribution of diffusely reflected light is isotropic, and (2) the amount of light reflected away from the position at which the particles are collected is larger than that of light reflected towards that position.

Display apparatus

An electrophoretic display device includes a substrate and unit cells. Each of the unit cells has one display electrode, two collection electrodes and two types of charged particles different from each other in charged polarity and coloration, and has a driving means capable of forming a state in which each of the two types of charged particles have been collected respectively at each of the collection electrodes, a state in which one of the two types of charged particles have been disposed on the display electrode and the other type of charged particles have been collected at one of the collection electrodes, a state in which one of the two types of charged particles have been collected at one of the collection electrodes and the other type of charged particles have been disposed on the display electrode, and a state intermediate between these states. A color display device is provided which promises bright and sharp-color display and has a display quality level close to that of hard-copy representation mediums.

Color electrophoretic display device

An electrophoretic display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed opposite each other, a dielectric liquid filled in a gap between the first substrate and the second substrate, a plurality of charged electrophoretic particles dispersed in the dielectric liquid, a first electrode and a second electrode disposed on the first substrate to define a pixel, a partition wall disposed on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate between adjacent pixels to prevent migration of the charged electrophoretic particles between the adjacent pixels, and a third electrode disposed adjacent to the partition wall. The charged electrophoretic particles migrate at least between a surface of the first electrode and a surface of the second electrode, and between the surface of the first electrode and a side surface of the partition wall where the third electrode is disposed to thereby switch displays.

Display device employing electrophoretic migration

An electrophoretic display device includes unit cells each containing i) two sets of display electrodes and a collection electrode and ii) two kinds of translucent colored electrophoretic particles having charge polarities different from each other. The unit cells are constructed so that the two display electrodes are superimposingly disposed to display the stated display color by the principle of subtractive mixture of color stimuli of the colored electrophoretic particles present on the display electrodes. Three unit cells are adjacently disposed in a same plane to form a pixel, and combinations of colors of the two kinds of translucent colored electrophoretic particles in each of the three unit cells forming the pixel are respectively one of the three primary colors and a color which provides black by subtractive mixture with one of the three primary colors.

An electrophoretic display device capable of realizing a stable memory characteristic without relying on a circuit-open state is provided. The electrophoretic display device has a cell structure including at least two electrodes, fixing surfaces each associated with one of the at least two electrodes an electrophoretic layer disposed in the cell and comprising an insulating liquid and colored charged particles disposed in the electrophoretic layer, and voltage application device for applying a voltage between the electrodes thereby causing migration of the colored charged particles toward and collective attachment onto one of the fixing surfaces; wherein the fixing surfaces are provided with a charged film having a constant surface charge of a polarity opposite to that of the colored charged particles, regardless of a polarity of electricity supplied to the associated electrodes.

Electrophoretic display device

A double-face display device is formed of a substrate sheet having a first surface and a second surface, a first display medium disposed over the first surface, a second display medium disposed over the second surface, and a first display electrode and a second display electrode disposed in association with the first display medium and the second display medium, respectively. A first switching device and a second switching device are electrically connected to the first display electrode and the second display electrode, respectively, so that voltages are applied to the first and second display electrodes via the first and second switching devices, respectively, thereby driving the first and second display media to display data on both faces of the display device. The production of the double-face display device is rationalized by disposing the first and second switching devices on a common surface within the display device. The common surface may be given by one of the first and second surfaces of the substrate sheet or an inter-layer surface between layer sheets forming the substrate sheet in a laminated form.

Double-face display device

The present invention relates to a configuration of a display element and forms switching circuits or peripheral circuits for driving pixels by transferring/disposing a semiconductor circuit formed on another substrate and disposes high performance transistors on the display substrate. The present invention also relates to a process of forming a circuit having switching elements for driving pixels and peripheral circuits for sending drive signals thereto on the substrate of the display element. A separation layer is formed on a second substrate and a semiconductor film is formed thereon. This semiconductor film having predetermined semiconductor circuits formed therein is bonded to the substrate of the display element and then electrical connection with a wire on the substrate is effected.

Display device and process of producing the same

A method of producing an electron-emitting device includes the steps of forming a pair of electrodes and an electrically-conductive thin film on a substrate in such a manner that the pair of electrodes are in contact with the electrically-conductive thin film and forming an electron emission region using the electrically-conductive thin film, wherein a solution containing a metal element is supplied in a droplet form onto the substrate thereby forming the electrically-conductive thin film.

Electron-emitting device, electron source substrate, electron source, display panel and image-forming apparatus, and production method thereof

The present invention provides a horizontally transfer type electrophoretic display device that can suppress occurrence of cross-talk and is capable of passive matrix addressing that can obtain a good display. The display device includes a fist display electrode and a second display electrode disposed on a first substrate, a second substrate being disposed in opposed relation to the first substrate via a barrier wall, a first control electrode as one of the two control electrodes disposed on the second substrate, and a second control electrode disposed at the boundary between the first display electrode and the second display electrode on the first electrode. A voltage can be independently applied to each control electrode, a transparent insulation liquid is filled in the space formed by the both substrates and the barrier wall, and colored and charged particles are dispersed in the transparent insulation liquid.

Electrophoretic display device and method for addressing display device

A method of producing an electron-emitting device includes the steps of forming a pair of electrodes and an electrically-conductive thin film on a substrate in such a manner that the pair of electrodes are in contact with the electrically-conductive thin film and forming an electron emission region using the electrically-conductive thin film, wherein the method is characterized in that a solution containing a metal element is supplied in a droplet form onto the substrate thereby forming the electrically-conductive thin film.

An apparatus for producing an electron-emitting thin film substrate, comprising a stage on which a substrate on which electrode pairs arranged along plural rows and columns is mounted, and a liquid droplet supplier for supplying, per each of the electrode pairs, a droplet formed from a liquid containing ingredient constituting a thin film member conducting an electron stream according to an electric field applied between the pair of electrodes during a movement relative to the substrate or the stage. The apparatus also comprises a source that provides the liquid containing ingredient constituting the thin film member to the liquid droplet supplier.
