An assembling method for a battery outer case including the steps of: molding a metal container main body with notched holes formed beforehand in its body portion for exposing terminals connected to a flat battery pack; receiving a flat battery pack in the metal container main body while fitting the terminals into the notched holes; covering the metal container main body with a metal lid; and superposing an open end portion of a metal container main body and an end portion of the metal lid with each other thereby to join them to each other by double seaming.

A battery outer case can provide space saving by reducing the length of protrusion of joint portions between a metal container main body and a metal lid, is free from a thermal influence, and can make it unnecessary to employ additional or extra parts such as a gasket. The battery outer case includes the metal container main body having at least one surface opened with a flat battery pack composed of flat type batteries received therein, and a metal lid for closing an opening formed in the metal container main body. The inside of the container is in communication with the outside thereof so as to have air permeability, and an open end periphery of the metal container main body and a lid end periphery of the metal lid are joined to each other by seaming.

A battery module has stacked therein a plurality of flat cells each formed by sealing a power generating element with a package member and deriving to the exterior electrode tabs from the package member and has the electrode tabs of the flat cells connected electrically. The battery module includes electrically insulated spacers adapted to nip the electrode tab from the opposite surface sides of the electrode tab along the stacking direction of the plurality of flat cells. The paired spacers nipping the electrode tab include an engaging member adapted to fasten the electrode tab by being passed through the electrode tab along the stacking direction.

Unit cells are held in a plate frame to form a cell module. A plurality of the cell modules is laminated in a thickness direction of the frame to form a laminated structure of unit cells. The cell unit is pressurized with heat sinks from both sides in the direction of the lamination, and is integrally held to form a battery.

Battery

A battery is provided with a plurality of unit cells stacked in a stack direction, a plurality of conductive members each having an electric conductivity, and a plurality of insulation members each having an insulation property. The plurality of conductive members and the plurality of insulation members are alternately disposed in the stack direction with the plurality of unit cells having respective output terminals being sandwiched such that the plurality of unit cells are electrically connected in the stack direction.

Battery and related method

A module battery comprises a cell including an electrode tab and a cell body having a power generating element hermetically sealed in a package film. The module battery has a constitution in which a plurality of the cells are stacked on one another, and the electrode tabs of the cells adjacent to each other in a stacking direction are interconnected. Further, a bent portion of an approximate L-shape toward the stacking direction of the cells is formed in each of the electrode tabs of the cells, and the bent portions of the cells adjacent to each other in the stacking direction are at least partially overlapped with each other so as to be interconnected.

Module battery

A module battery comprises cells each having an electric power generating element hermetically sealed in a package film, and cell holders on each of which each of the cells is mounted and held. The cell holders are formed in configurations so as to allow the cell holders to be freely stacked in a plurality of stages while permitting the cells to be retained thereon and to allow electrode tabs of the cells to be exposed between the cell holders neighboring in a stacking direction. Thus, the module battery can be formed in an easy assembly work.

A thin battery is configured with improved durability of foil-like electrode terminals. The thin battery has an electricity-generating element housed inside a battery outer casing with a pair of electrodes of the electricity-generating element being connected to electrode terminals that extend out from the outer edges of the battery outer casing. The electrode terminals have a base portion located partially with the battery outer casing and a tip portion spaced from the battery outer casing with strength transition point being formed between the base portions and the tip portions. The strength transition points of the electrode terminals are positioned to the outside at some distance away from the outer edge of the battery outer casing.
