A backrest of a vehicle seat comprises a backrest armature, at least one central upholstery module and two side upholstery modules each arranged on a respective side of the central upholstery module. Each of the at least three upholstery modules is fixed to the backrest armature independently of the other two upholstery modules.

Vehicle seat backrest

A backrest of a vehicle seat includes an armature and an upholstery fixed to the armature. The upholstery has a slit for accommodating a headrest support rod by relative movement of the upholstery with respect to the armature in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle seat. The backrest further includes first and second trim elements. Each trim element forms a notch. The notches of the first and second trim elements define a passage for a headrest support rod. The second trim element partially covers the slit in the upholstery. The first and/or the second trim elements is/are in contact with the upholstery.

A method for manufacturing a covering system for a motor vehicle seat member includes the steps of: providing a support, a cover and a pad; associating the support with the cover, the pad being left free between the support and the cover; and creating longitudinal seam lines, one on either side of the pad. The longitudinal seam lines join together the support and the cover. The longitudinal seam lines form straight segments, extending in a transverse direction towards the first pad, and join together the support, the cover, and the first pad.

The invention relates to the upholstery of a seat element for a motor vehicle and to the method of creating it, in which method a foam support block is produced to fit a frame element; a cover element is created by cold-forming a foam sprayed onto a polypropylene substrate and attached on the reverse side of a textile material in the form of a skin or synthetic material to define the visible shape of the seat element; and the cover element is attached to the support block.
