An optical system for a motor vehicle, in particular for an indicating and/or lighting device, arranged to emit a light, the intensity of which is maximal in a given prioritized optical direction. The optical system comprises a surface light source exhibiting a front wall emitting a light, the intensity of which is maximal in a principal direction of emission, and an optical guide comprising an input face and an output face forming at least partly an outer face of the system, the system being arranged such that the light penetrates the guide through the input face and escapes through the output face. The optical guide being conformed such that the intensity of the light at the output of the system is maximal in a prioritized optical direction.

A motor vehicle headlight comprises a reflector arranged to be oriented along the horizontal axis of the vehicle, together with a light source situated in the vicinity of the focus of the reflector. It also includes a filter which is able to occupy a withdrawn first position in which it does not interfere with the light beam, and a working second position in which it interferes with at least part of the beam. Means are provided for moving the filter between its working and withdrawn positions. The filter is a diffusing and absorbing filter which does not substantially modify the wavelengths of the emergent light as compared with the incident light, and which is arranged so that, with the filter in the working position, a second type of light beam is produced having a reduced intensity, and, optionally, a modified photometric distribution.

Motor vehicle headlight with at least two functions

A motor vehicle headlight of the type comprising a two-filament lamp in which a first filament is provided with a cup so as to allow light to pass over a given angular extent only, and in which a second filament has no such cup, the headlight further comprising a closure glass and a reflector suitable for co-operating with one or the other of the two filaments respectively for generating an anti-fog beam and a main beam. According to the invention, the reflector comprises a reflecting surface having a first zone whose extent corresponds at least approximately to said given angular extent and whose shape is such that it generates, on its own, images of the first filament in which all of the points of the images lie below a cutoff that extends generally horizontally, thereby forming the anti-fog beam, and a second zone that runs continuously into the first zone, said first and second zones co-operating with the second filament to form the main beam.
