A capacitance module may include a set of electrodes, a controller in communication with the set of electrodes, and memory in communication with the controller. The memory may include programmed instructions that cause the capacitance module, when executed, to perform a calibration, the calibration including prompting a finger input, storing a finger attribute of a finger capacitance measurement associated with the finger input, prompting a palm input, storing a palm attribute of a palm capacitance measurement associated with the palm input, and determining an unprompted palm input by consulting at least one of the stored finger attribute and the stored palm attribute.

Determining an unprompted input

A capacitance sensor may be positioned to detect size changes in objects. The sensor may be constructed with to use mutual capacitance or self-capacitance to detect the size changes.

Size detection

A device may include a pressure sensor; a user interface including an input surface opposite to an underside of the user interface, where the underside is positioned near the pressure sensor; a controller; memory in communication with the controller and comprising programmed instructions that, when executed, cause the controller to detect a lower pressure input, simultaneously detect a higher pressure input, calculate a pressure differential between the lower pressure input and the higher pressure input, and move an object depicted in a display in communication with the controller based on the pressure differential.

Pressure gesture

An apparatus may include a capacitance sensor, a processor in communication with the capacitance sensor, and memory having programmed instructions that cause the processor, when executed, to determine a closure status of a closure member based on a measurement from the capacitance sensor.

Closure member sensor

A system and method for providing a fluid flow strain gauge that may be mounted inside a pipe and connected to a base unit that uses capacitive or resistive technology to determine a direction and a rate of flow of a fluid through the pipe by measuring the force applied to the strain gauge by the flow of fluid.
