Methods, systems, and devices for a mechanical circulatory support system are disclosed herein. An implantable power supply can be part of a mechanical circulatory support system. The implantable power supply can include one or several energy storage components, a power source, a voltage converter, and an output bus. Power can be provided to the voltage converter from one or both of the power source and the first energy storage component. The voltage converter can convert the voltage of the power from a first voltage to a second voltage and can power the output bus.

Blood pump controllers and methods of use for improved energy efficiency

Systems and method for powering an implanted blood pump are disclosed herein. The system can be a mechanical circulatory support system. The mechanical circulatory support system can include an implantable blood pump. The implantable blood pump includes a DC powered pump control unit that can control the blood pump according to one or several stored instructions. The implantable blood pump includes a rectifier electrically connected to the pump control unit. The implantable rectifier can convert the AC to DC for powering the pump control unit. The system can include an external controller electrically connected to the rectifier. The external controller can provide AC electrical power to the implantable blood pump.

Heart pump driveline power modulation

A circulation assist system measures impeller displacement for use in estimating a blood flow rate related parameter. A circulation assist system includes a blood pump and a controller. The blood pump includes an impeller magnetically supported within a blood flow channel. The blood pump includes one or more sensors configured to generate output indicative of displacement of the impeller along the blood flow channel induced by a blood-flow induced thrust load applied to the impeller. The controller is configured to process the output generated by the one or more sensors to determine the displacement of the impeller along the blood flow channel. The controller is configured to process the determined displacement of the impeller to estimate at least one of the thrust load applied to the impeller, a pressure differential of the blood impelled through the blood flow channel, and a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump.

The present disclosure provides systems and methods for controlling wireless power transfer systems. A wireless power transfer system includes a transmitter driven by a power source and a transmit controller, wherein the transmitter is configured to control delivery of wireless power, and a receiver inductively coupled to the transmitter, the receiver configured to receive the wireless power from the transmitter and deliver the received wireless power to a load. The receiver includes receiver electronics configured to determine a Thevenin equivalent impedance of the wireless power transfer system, determine a Thevenin equivalent source voltage of the wireless power transfer system, and control, based on the determined Thevenin equivalent impedance and the determined Thevenin equivalent source voltage, an ideal source voltage of the receiver to vary the amount of the wireless power transferred from the transmitter to the receiver.

Resonant power transfer systems having efficiency optimization based on receiver impedance

An implantable blood pump system is disclosed herein. The implantable blood pump system includes an implantable blood pump and a controller coupled to the blood pump. The controller includes a partially sealed housing defining an internal volume. The controller includes an energy storage component contained within the internal volume and a processor. The processor can generate one or several signals affecting operation of the implantable blood pump. The controller includes a connector receptacle including a plurality of contacts selectively coupled via a circuitry to the energy storage component. The circuitry can electrically couple the plurality of contacts to the energy storage component when a connector insert is received within the connector receptacle and deactivate the plurality of contacts from the energy storage component when the connector insert is not within the connector receptacle.

Blood pump controllers

Apparatuses and methods relating to interfacing and controlling external batteries are described. In one embodiment, an external battery is integrated with a touch screen display. In one embodiment, the external battery provides an infrared communication link with a detachable device or system controller. In one embodiment, the external battery touch screen interface provides data received from a detachable device or system controller.

The present disclosure is directed to an electrochemical cell connector for electrically connecting a plurality of electrochemical cells, and to battery packs including the electrochemical cell connector. The electrochemical cell connectors of the present disclosure are fabricated from a flexible circuit. The flexible circuit includes conductors, such as nickel conductors, soldered or otherwise attached thereto via holes or openings in the flexible circuit. These conductors may be welded or otherwise attached to an electrochemical cell, and the electrochemical cell connections made on the flexible circuit. In many embodiments, the conductors may be attached to the flexible circuit using industry standard automated assembly equipment thus streamlining the manufacturing process and improving overall quality of the product.

A connector assembly for connecting external power sources to an implanted medical device enables continual supply of electrical power to the implanted medical device during replacement of an external power source. A connector assembly includes a distal driveline contact assembly, a first driveline contact assembly, and a second driveline contact assembly. The second driveline contact assembly is connectable to the distal driveline contact assembly prior to disconnection of the first driveline contact assembly from the distal driveline contact assembly.

Driveline connectors and methods for use with heart pump controllers

A pressure differential across a blood pump and/or a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump is estimated based at least in part on impeller thrust load. A blood pump for a circulation assist system includes a housing forming a blood flow channel, an impeller, one or more support members coupled to the housing, a sensor, and a controller operatively coupled with the sensor. At least one of the one or more support members react a thrust load applied to the impeller by blood impelled through the blood flow channel by the impeller. The sensor generates output indicative of the magnitude of the thrust load. The controller is configured to process the sensor output to estimate at least one of a pressure differential across the blood pump and a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump.

Systems and designs for tuning a wireless power transfer system are provided, which may include any number of features. In one embodiment, a wireless power transfer system can be configured such that resonant frequencies of the system move towards an operating frequency of the system as a coupling coefficient between the transmit and receive resonators becomes smaller. In another embodiment, a receive controller can be configured to control a current delivered to a DC load by comparing an actual current at the DC load to a current requested by the DC load and adjusting an angle or a magnitude of a voltage at the DC load to match the requested current. In another embodiment, a rectifier circuit can act as a controlled voltage source and be configured to tune resonant frequencies between the transmit resonator and the receive resonator. Methods of use are also provided.

Self-tuning resonant power transfer systems

An improved wireless transmission system for transferring power over a distance. The system includes a transmitter generating a magnetic field and a receiver for inducing a voltage in response to the magnetic field. In some embodiments, the transmitter can include a plurality of transmitter resonators configured to transmit wireless power to the receiver. The transmitter resonators can be disposed on a flexible substrate adapted to conform to a patient. In one embodiment, the polarities of magnetic flux received by the receiver can be measured and communicated to the transmitter, which can adjust polarities of the transmitter resonators to optimize power transfer. Methods of use are also provided.
