Disclosed aspects relate to cooling electronics. A set of recirculation flaps is coupled with a cooling fan. At least one recirculation flap has a ferrous material. In various embodiments, the set of recirculation flaps is arranged in an open position in response to air pressure from the cooling fan, and is arranged in a closed position in response to substantially no air pressure from the cooling fan. A controller is coupled with the cooling fan. The controller indicates a set of indicated positions for the set of recirculation flaps based on a tachometer value. An electromagnet is connected with the controller to position the set of recirculation flaps in the set of indicated positions using the ferrous material. In various embodiments, the electromagnet engages the ferrous material to arrange the set of recirculation flaps in an open position.

Computational fluid dynamics modeling of a bounded domain is provided which includes solving iteratively a computational fluid dynamics model of the bounded domain using mass flow boundary conditions that are specified. The solving includes automatically adjusting the specified mass flow boundary conditions for at least one iteration of the solving. The automatically adjusting includes mass balancing flows at a boundary of the bounded domain to provide corrected mass flow boundary conditions for the solving. The mass balancing includes applying different corrections to mass in-flow across the domain boundary, compared with mass out-flow across the boundary. The mass balancing may include multiplying mass in-flows across the boundary by (1&#x2212;CF), and mass out-flows across the boundary by (1+CF), where CF is a determined correction factor, and net mass flow is positive for mass out-flow exiting the domain, and negative for mass in-flow entering the domain.

Bounded domain modeling with specified boundary conditions and mass balancing

A hybrid computational fluid dynamics (CFD) approach is provided for modeling a bounded domain by processing the domain to automatically locate a viscous region(s) by: dividing the domain into cells and determining flow characteristic values for cells; defining characteristic cutoff values using multiple cutoff percentiles of cells and the flow characteristic values, and defining ranges between cutoff values, and respective &#x3c7; values, where one &#x3c7; value is a highest &#x3c7; value R; assigning &#x3c7; values to cells based on the determined flow characteristic values in comparison to the cutoffs; selectively increasing the assigned &#x3c7; value of a cell(s) sharing a border with a seed cell having &#x3c7; value R; identifying a viscous region where multiple contiguous cells have assigned &#x3c7; values equal or above a threshold; evaluating the viscous region(s) by performing viscous domain solve; and providing a model of the domain using results of the viscous domain solve.

CFD modeling of a bounded domain with viscous region partitioning

Predictive monitoring of a rotational machine of a cooling apparatus is provided by integrating a predictive vibration analyzer into an electronics rack being cooled by the cooling apparatus. The integrating includes associating at least one sensor of the predictive vibration analyzer with the rotational machine of the cooling apparatus. The analyzer includes a predetermined harmonics table of one or more base operational frequencies and associated rotational speed harmonics for the rotational machine indicative of one or more rotational faults, and the predictive vibration analyzer automatically evaluates vibration of the rotational machine during operation of the machine by analyzing vibration data therefor, and automatically ascertains, based on the vibration data, and the predetermined harmonics table, whether the rotational machine is predicted to possess a rotational fault of the one or more rotational faults.

A heatsink structure cools a first electronic chip and a second electronic chip that are positioned serially and in-line to one or more cooling fan, such that cooling air from the cooling fan(s) passes above the first electronic chip before passing above the second electronic chip. The heatsink structure includes a first heatsink and a second heatsink, which are identical to each other, and which fit adjacent to one another when a first heatsink is rotated 180 degrees relative to the second heatsink.

An apparatus to cool a computing device is provided and includes a structure. The structure includes a coolant moving device and a heat generating component. The structure is formed such that the coolant moving device is configured to generate a first flow of coolant into a plenum in a first direction and a second flow of coolant from the plenum in a second direction, which is transverse to the first direction, such that the coolant thermally interacts with the heat generating component. The structure further includes a plate interposed between the plenum and the heat generating component. The plate includes aerodynamic elements disposed to extend into the plenum.

An anti-counterfeiting technique presents, to a test thermoreflective mark at a first temperature, a first electromagnetic wave. A first test reflective profile for the test thermoreflective mark associated with the first temperature is recorded. A second electromagnetic wave is presented to the test thermoreflective mark at a second temperature. A second test reflective profile for the test thermoreflective mark associated with the second temperature is recorded. The first test reflective profile is compared with a first control reflective profile that is associated with a genuine thermoreflective mark. The second test reflective profile is compared with a second control reflective profile that is associated with the genuine thermoreflective mark.

Some embodiments of the inventive subject matter include a computer program product for validating a test thermoreflective mark. The computer program product can include computer usable program code configured to control a temperature regulation unit configured to govern a temperature of a thermoreflective mark. The computer usable program code can be further configured to control an electromagnetic waver emitter to present at a first temperature, a first electromagnetic wave. The computer usable program code can be further configured to record a first reflective profile. The computer usable program code can be further configured to control the electromagnetic wave emitter to present at a second temperature, a second electromagnetic wave. The computer usable program code can be further configured to record a second reflective profile. The computer usable code can be further configured to validate the thermoreflective mark based on the first reflective profile and the second reflective profile.

An inlet recirculation apparatus for an air moving device includes a housing defined by a wall extending from a base. The base includes an aperture therethrough receptive to alignment with an inlet of the air moving device. A plurality of flaps each pivotally extends radially outwardly from a center pivot to another corresponding pivot disposed around a perimeter of the wall. The center pivot is coaxial with a center of the aperture. Each flap moves to an open position due to air pressure from the air moving device causing air to flow into the inlet wherein each flap pivotally rotates about the center pivot and corresponding pivot at the wall, and moves to a closed position when air pressure from the air moving device ceases wherein a space between contiguous flaps is eliminated when each flap pivotally rotates to the closed position about the center pivot and corresponding pivot at the wall to prevent reverse airflow through the air moving device.
