A method of optimizing strength in an improved mold for a cast component. The method may include the steps of evaluating a flaw in an existing mold, adding external reinforcement features to a design of the improved mold, manufacturing the improved mold in an additive manufacturing process, and casting the cast component in the improved mold.

Method for integrated fixturing of direct print molds for cast components

A flow metering apparatus for a passage in a turbomachine component, the turbomachine component, and a method of using the apparatus, are provided. The apparatus may include a pre-sintered preform (PSP) sealing device with a sealing body. The sealing body has an opening defined therethrough having a first cross-sectional area. A hollow member is fixed within the opening defined through the sealing body. The hollow member has a second cross-sectional area smaller than the first cross-sectional area of the opening, and is made of a material having a melt temperature higher than a melt temperature of the PSP material. The method includes positioning the sealing device and brazing the sealing device in place. The hollow member maintains fluid communication through the sealing device after the brazing, and allows customized metering of the coolant flow therethrough.

A method of repairing a fuel injector including a plurality of pre-mix tubes that each extend from a fuel plenum to an outlet portion includes removing the outlet portion from at least one pre-mix tube to define an exposed end portion, machining an inner surface of the at least one pre-mix tube at the exposed end portion to form an increased inner diameter relative to an inner diameter of the pre-mix tube upstream from the exposed end portion, and coupling a tube tip to the exposed end portion.

Methods of repairing tubes in bundled tube fuel injectors

A process of repairing a component includes identifying a void in a component; determining at least one approximate physical configuration of the void; inserting borescope into the component in order to view the void; providing a repair rod approximately equivalent to at least one of the least one approximate physical configuration of the void; inserting the repair rod into component; confirming insertion of the repair rod in the void; separating the repair rod to leave a repair plug in the void; and depositing braze paste over the repair plug in the void.

A ball for a ball-chute in a turbine component, the turbine component, and a method of using the ball, are provided. A ball may include a ball body made of a pre-sintered preform (PSP) material. The ball body has an opening defined therethrough having a first cross-sectional area. A hollow member is fixed within the opening defined through the ball body. The hollow member has a second cross-sectional area smaller than the first cross-sectional area of the opening, and is made of a material having a melt temperature higher than a melt temperature of the PSP material. The method includes positioning the ball and brazing the ball in place. The hollow member maintains fluid communication through the ball after the brazing, and allows customized metering of the coolant flow therethrough.

A composition includes the constituents, in approximate weight percentages: Chromium 15-17; Silicon 2.5-3.5; Cobalt 6.0-8.0; Aluminum 1.0-2.0; Tantalum 1.5-2.5; Boron 1.5-2.5; Yttrium 0.015-0.025; Nickel balance; and incidental impurities.

Braze composition and process of using

A tip rail cooling insert for attaching into a tip rail pocket in a tip rail of a turbine blade is disclosed. The insert includes a first inner layer defining at least one first insert cooling channel therein, the first inner layer including a pair of spaced legs defining a first coolant collection plenum with at least the tip rail pocket for directing coolant from at least one internal cooling cavity in the turbine blade to the at least one first insert cooling channel. Each of the pair of spaced legs has an angled outer end configured to accommodate rounded inner corners of the tip rail pocket. A first outer layer is on a first side of the first inner layer, and a second outer layer is on a second side of the first inner layer.
