Methods and systems are provided for implementing a diagnostic technique for a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) assembly. In one example, the method includes generating an estimated crankcase pressure at the location of a crankcase pressure sensor based on a nominal model and a faulted model of a PCV system that is generated by a controller. The method further includes diagnosing a PCV system component based on a difference between the estimated crankcase pressure and an input from the crankcase pressure sensor; and responsive to the crankcase pressure sensor having a faulted diagnosis, triggering a sensor degradation indicator.

Method and system for positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) diagnostics

An oil separation baffle is mounted in an oil gallery of an internal combustion engine. A lower section includes a bottom wall and side window openings. Crankcase gasses flow into the side window openings, through the lower section, and through the top opening. An upper section includes a plurality of ribs extending horizontally between a front side wall of the upper section and a rear side wall of the upper section. The plurality of ribs are vertically spaced apart from each other and extend from a first wall of the oil gallery toward a second wall of the oil gallery to an opening defined between a distal end of the rib and the other of the first and second walls of the oil gallery. The bottom planar wall separates larger oil droplets and the ribs separate smaller oil particles from the crankcase gasses and return the oil to the crankcase.

A crankcase ventilation system is disclosed that includes a PCV valve, a spigot and a tube connector. The PCV valve is enclosed in a module housing that encloses a plunger, and a spring. The module housing defines an inlet opening, and an outlet opening and is assembled inside an engine component. The spigot is attached to an outer surface of the engine and is in fluid communication with the PCV valve through the outlet opening. The tube connector is in fluid communication with the tube connector and the PCV valve. An intake manifold of the engine provides vacuum to the PCV valve, through the tube, the tube connector and the spigot. If one of the tube, tube connector, or spigot is detached from the engine, the PCV valve is retained in the engine and is held closed by the spring biasing the plunger against the inlet opening.

Methods and systems are provided for a fastening assembly. In one example, the fastening assembly includes a vibration dampening element, a two-piece insert, a lower portion, and a fastener configured to engage with the two-piece insert and the lower portion of the assembly. The fastening assembly may be at least partially assembled during manufacture of components to be coupled via the fastening assembly, allowing the components to be readily coupled during final installation of the fastening assembly.
