System for separating non-magnetizable metals from a mixture of solids

A refuse packaging assembly of the kind comprising a refuse press having a pressing plunger which is axially movable in a pressing box, and a container which is adapted to be connected to the outlet end of the pressing box in order to be filled with refuse by the plunger, the container having a closure plug which is uncoupled from the container and coupled to the plunger for movement therewith when the container is connected to the press. The container carries at least one spring loaded pin which is biased into a coupling aperture in the closure plug to couple the two together, and the plunger carries at least one weaker spring loaded pin which aligns with the coupling aperture when the container is moved into position for connection to the press and the plunger is moved to a coupling position. A coupling lever which is operated by a power actuator to securely hold the container connected to the press simultaneously acts to retract the container pin from the coupling aperture, thereby uncoupling the plug from the container and allowing the plunger pin to move into the aperture to couple the plug to the plunger. Releasing the coupling lever automatically leads to uncoupling of the closure plug from the plunger and recoupling to the container.

Refuse packaging assembly

A machine for pressing and binding bales (6) of refuse with wire is provided with a binding mechanism comprising a wire cutting device (14), a wire twisting device (13) and a binding needle (19) which is movable across a rear face of the bale for forming a wire loop (8a, 8b), a part of which is joined by the twisting device (13) to the tail end (8c) of a previously formed loop of wire to form a band extending around the bale. In order to avoid waste of wire occurring in the binding of overlength bales and to ensure functionally reliable and trouble-free binding of the bales, the binding needle (19) together with the wire loop (8a 8b) are capable of being transported parallel to the pressing direction (P) until they are adjacent the position adoped by the twisting device (13).

Apparatus for pressing and binding bales of refuses

A method of loading bales of refuse from a horizontally acting baling press on to a transport vehicle without the use of a separate loading machine such as a fork-lift truck comprises aligning the transport vehicle with a discharge from the press; moving each bale as it is discharged from the press on to a transverse table; moving some of the bales laterally so that the bales are formed into two or more rows side by side aligned with the transport vehicle and moving the two rows of bales progressively forwards as successive bales are discharged from the press so that the rows are moved from the transverse table on to the vehicle and the rows are built up on the vehicle until the vehicle is fully loaded. The apparatus for carrying out this method comprises a discharge table arranged at the outlet of the press, a transverse table aligned with the discharge table and on the side of the discharge table remote from the press, the transverse table having a drive by which it is horizontally displaceable across the direction of discharge of the bales from the press and a longitudinally movable hauling tongs which is arranged to move single bales forwards from the discharge table on to the transverse table and then to move the two or more rows of bales which are assembled from the transverse table forwards on to the transport vehicle.

Apparatus for loading bales on to transport vehicles

A method of loading bales of refuse from a horizontally acting baling press on to a transport vehicle without the use of a separate loading machine such as a fork-lift truck comprises aligning the transport vehicle with a discharge from the press; moving each bale as it is discharged from the press on to a transverse table; moving some of the bales laterally so that the bales are formed into two or more rows side by side aligned with the transport vehicle and moving the two rows of bales progressively forward as successive bales are discharged from the press so that the rows are moved from the transverse table on to the vehicle and the rows are built up on the vehicle until the vehicle is fully loaded. The apparatus for carrying out this method comprises a discharge table arranged at the outlet of the press, a transverse table aligned with the discharge table and on the side of the discharge table remote from the press, the transverse table having a drive by which it is horizontally displaceable across the direction of discharge of the bales from the press and a longitudinally movable hauling tongs which is arranged to move single bales forward from the discharge table on to the transverse table and then to move the two or more rows of bales which are assembled from the transverse table forward on to the transport vehicle.

Method of loading bales on to transport vehicles

A baling press for the production of bound bales of scrap material such as refuse is of the kind which comprises a press box, a press plunger which is movable through the press box to compress refuse fed to the box from a hopper the outlet of which is closed by the plunger as the plunger moves through the press box in a pressing stroke, a press channel which forms an extension of the press box and into which the pressed bales are pushed by the plunger and a binding mechanism disposed between the press box and the press channel for binding the bales as they are pushed into the channel. The press is provided with a separator slide which is movable transversely to the direction of movement of the press plunger and is disposed between the press box and the press channel just upstream of the binding mechanism considered in relation to the direction of pressing movement of the plunger. The slide is movable between an operative position in the path of the plunger and a retracted position clear of this path. When in its operative position, the slide forms at one side an abutment against which the plunger presses the scrap material and has at the other side grooves formed through it for the passage of parts of a binding mechanism to enable a bale on the downstream side of the slide to be bound as it enters the channel.
