A rough grinding wheel has a plurality of annular grooves with widths at the surfaces of the grooves that are less than the widths thereof at the bottoms of the grooves. This feature provides a space for fluid during the grinding process. A finishing wheel may be mounted on a common shaft with the rough grinding wheel. The rough grinding wheel is intended for use in a method for grinding the outer contour of a cam wherein the cam is rough-ground with the roughing wheel; after a first radial infeed, the rough grinding wheel is withdrawn and axially displaced for a second infeed; this process is repeated until the cam is rough-ground.

Apparatus for internally grinding rotationally-symmetrical workpieces, the grinding disc of which only abuts against the end face of the workpiece and has a generatrix which extends in a substantially flat manner and, by subtending a small clearance anle, is guided towards the area of the workpiece to be machined, a further clearance angle being formed by an offset disposition of the axes of the grinding disc and of the workpiece relative to one another, the point of contact between the grinding disc and the completely ground workpiece face being offset by a dimension D relative to the central axis of the workpiece.

Method for internal grinding

A bearing system for high speed spindles of machine tools, particularly grinding machines, comprises at least one front bearing arranged close to the spindle flange and a rear bearing, which in each case have three support rolls acting equiangularly on the spidle and having a larger diameter than the latter. In order to obtain a clearance-free bearing system in the case of speeds up to 150,000 rpm satisfying the precision requirements made on precison machine tools, the support rolls are fixed and mounted with roll journals provided on either side in small diameter precision ballbearings in the casing receiving the spindle and the support rolls. The spindle has as bearing surfaces conical portions inclined against one another and with resepct to which the axis of the support rolls is parallel. At least the support rolls of one bearing are adjustable axially parallel to the spindle for prestressing or pretensioning purposes.

Bearing system for high speed spindles of machine tools

A method of clamping rotationally symmetrical workpieces for their circumferences to be ground, whereby the radial positioning, the clamping and the axial positioning of the workpiece are effected independently of one another, so that the positioning operation is not affected by the clamping operation and is accurately maintained. In addition, a clamping device for implementing the method includes a first member which radially positions the workpiece, a second member which clamps the workpiece for transferring torque, and a third member which axially positions the workpiece.

In a method and an apparatus for high speed profile grinding of rotatably clamped rotation symmetrical workpieces, a grinding disk of an essentially flat surface line is being guided against the surface of the workpiece so that during the grinding process, the grinding disk touches the circumference of the workpiece in the region of the finished diameter only at a point which lies perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the workpiece, whereby the surface line of the grinding disk forms a clearance angle with the circumferential line of the ground surface of the workpiece.

Method and apparatus for high speed profile grinding of rotation

A clamping device for a grinding disk. The apparatus permits balancing and detachable fastening of a grinding ring on a driving shaft so that it excludes distorting and damaging of the grinding ring. For this purpose the supporting portion of a support flange of the driving shaft and the grinding ring are provided with interacting guiding means.

The threaded portion of a tap drill is formed by mounting a tool blank for rotation about a longitudinal axis and mounting first and second grinding wheels integrally for rotation about a common second longitudinal axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the tool blank. The tool blank and a first grinding wheel are rotated about the respective longitudinal axes thereof while moved longitudinally with respect thereto, thereby employing grinding ribs of the first grinding wheel to form threads in the blank. The second grinding wheel then is moved closer to the blank and a smooth peripheral surface of the second grinding wheel grinds away outer portions of the threads at an end portion of the tool blank, thus forming a tapered starting end of the tool.

An apparatus for forming a saw blade or saw band by forming saw teeth in a solid stock moving continuously in a longitudinal direction includes a grinding wheel mounted for rotation about an axis which is inclined at an acute angle to and which diverges from the direction of movement of the stock. The grinding wheel has a generally frusto-conical configuration and an outer periphery defined by first and second axially distinct helical grinding ribs having different contours.

Apparatus for cutting saw teeth into saw blades or saw bands

A lathe dog has a floating pendulum disc (D) held in a rotatable holder (H) associated with one center point (B) for a workpiece (A). Such holding is shown to be in a slot (G) by an extension finger (K) engaging spherical contacts (G'). The disc (D) has a central interiorly conical (F', F') carrier (F) to engage on and be pressed (springs E) against the workpiece (A) and permit tilting thereof.

A grinding disk for forming a spur gear includes a single integral disk member having a grinding surface including a finish grinding tooth and a pre-grinding tooth. The finish grinding tooth has a profile corresponding to the desired configuration of the flanks of adjacent teeth and the tooth gap therebetween for a given spur gear to be formed. The pre-grinding tooth has a profile formed by curved surfaces only. The finish grinding tooth and the pre-grinding tooth are spaced by distance equal to one tooth pitch between adjacent teeth of the spur gear to be formed.
