Devices, systems and methods for actuation and retraction in fluid collection

The disclosed apparatus, systems and methods relate to devices, systems and methods for the collection of bodily fluids. The collector can make use of microfluidic networks connected to collection sites on the skin of a subject to gather and shuttle blood into a removable cartridge. The collected fluid is supplied to substrate for drying, storage and transport.

Methods for delivery of bodily fluids onto a fibrous substrate

Various collection devices, systems and methods relating to the use of devices with open microfluidic channels disposed within a housing defining a lumen. These devices make use of microneedles passed through apertures to induce fluid flow into microfluidic channel networks for collection and analysis. The device can be actuated via button when placed on the skin of a patient to collect a fluid sample, such as a blood draw.

Methods, systems, and devices relating to open microfluidic channels

The disclosed apparatus, systems and methods relate to the collection of bodily fluids through the use of gravity and microfluidic properties by way of a collector. Devices and methods for withdrawing bodily fluid from a subject are disclosed herein. In some embodiments, a handheld device can include a housing having an opening, a skin-piercing assembly, and an actuator coupled to the skin-piercing assembly. The skin-piercing assembly can include a casing, a drive member pivotably mounted within the casing and carrying a blade, and a biasing member coupling the drive member to the casing. The actuator can be movable relative to the housing from a first position to a second position. In the first position, the drive member can engage the casing to maintain the biasing member in a biased configuration. Movement of the actuator from the first position to the second position can disengage the drive member from the casing to permit the biasing member to drive the blade at least partially through and/or across the opening in the base.

Bodily fluid collection devices and related methods

Devices and methods for withdrawing bodily fluid from a patient are disclosed herein. A handheld device configured in accordance with the present technology can include a housing having an opening, a skin-piercing assembly located at least partially within the housing, and an actuator movable relative to the housing along a deployment direction. The skin-piercing assembly can include a skin-piercing feature and a biasing member. The biasing member can be coupled to the skin-piercing feature to bias the skin-piercing feature along the deployment direction. Movement of the actuator along the deployment direction to a predetermined position can increase a load on the biasing member to at least a partially loaded state. Movement of the actuator along the deployment direction beyond the predetermined position can release the load on the biasing member so that the biasing member actively drives the skin-piercing feature along the deployment direction.

The present technology provides spontaneous capillary flow devices for patterning walls on a hydrophilic substrate. In some embodiments, the devices include rails having a first end portion for receiving a flowable material, a second end portion opposite the first end portion, and a base portion having a flow surface extending between the first end portion and the second end portion. The flow surface can face the hydrophilic substrate and define a flow path. When the flowable material is released into the first end portion, the flowable material flows via spontaneous capillary flow from the first end portion to the second end portion along the flow path to create a partition on the hydrophilic substrate.
