A control mechanism (14) associated with a tractor operators seat (110) and an arm rest (112) is disclosed which includes a steering selector apparatus (116) having an upstanding member (134) and a tiller arm (118) extending outwardly therefrom. The tiller arm (118) is advantageously located immediately forwardly of the arm rest (112) and has a mounting portion (142) and hand grip portion (144) that can be easily grasped by an operator's downwardly facing hand palm. A support assembly (136) pivotally supports the upstanding member (134) for movement about a fixed upstanding axis (140) and a control device (46,50,52,54,184) steers the tractor in response to the swinging movement of the tiller arm (118). In response to rotation of the hand grip portion (144) about the axis (158) of the tiller arm (118) a second control device (38,42,174) effects a change in the gear condition of an associated transmission (36).

Control mechanism for operating a tractor

A fuel injection nozzle for engines or the like, including a nozzle barrel and device for delivering fuel to the interior of the barrel. A fuel delivery port is disposed on one end of the barrel and a poppet valve seat is located on the end of the barrel concentric with the port. A poppet valve is seatable against the valve seat to close the port and a valve stem extends through the port into the barrel and has the poppet valve mounted on one end. The port serves as a guide for the stem for reciprocating movement of the stem within the barrel and there are provided a plurality of angularly spaced, longitudinal grooves in at least the valve stem. The grooves are dimensioned so as to extend past the valve seat when the poppet valve is open to provide plural fuel conduits for the flow of fuel from the barrel into a combustion chamber or the like and to be sealed by the valve and the valve seat when the valve is closed to prevent exposure of fuel therein to gases of combustion to thereby prevent vaporization of such fuel and the resultant substantial hydrocarbon emissions.

Fuel injection nozzle

An internal combustion engine including a housing having interior walls defining an operating chamber, a piston mounted for movement within the chamber and carrying at least one seal for sealing against an interior wall, an output shaft associated with the piston and journalled in the housing, an exhaust port in one of the interior walls comprises of a series of openings extending through the wall into the chamber and spaced from one another by bridging elements forming part of the housing. Coolant passages are disposed at each of the bridging elements so that the same are cooled to maintain a good oil film at the exhaust port to minimize wear of the seal and to support the seal as it moves across the exhaust port.

Engine port bridging

A method of making a heat exchanger sheet is disclosed including progressively forming an elongated flat sheet of metal into a continuously corrugated sheet having a plurality of deeply drawn convolutions which extend across the sheet, and compressing the periphery of the corrugated sheet to provide a substantially flattened edge portion while retaining a centrally disposed corrugated portion with minimal cold working thereof. Preferably, the sheet made thereby has convolutions with slightly sloping walls to better provide a geometrically uniform overlapped pattern in the flattened edge portion thereof.

Method of manufacturing a heat exchanger steel

An improved corner seal for rotary mechanisms, such as trochoidal or slant axis rotary mechanisms. A rotor is provided with a piston seal receiving bore and the piston seal is received in the bore to be carried by the rotor and sealingly engage a wall of the mechanism operating chamber. A first seal receiving groove is disposed in the rotor and intersects the bore and a correspondingly dimensioned first seal receiving groove is located in the piston seal to be substantially centered with the first groove in the rotor. A first seal is received in the grooves. A second seal receiving groove is located in the rotor and intersects the bore at an angle to the first seal receiving groove. A second seal receiving groove is disposed in the piston seal and is only nominally centered with the second seal receiving groove in the rotor. It is also substantially wider than the second seal receiving groove in the rotor. A second seal is received in the second seal receiving grooves and a further seal is disposed in the second seal receiving groove in the piston seal on one side of the second seal.

Corner seals for rotary mechanisms

A heat exchanger core made up of a loose stack of heat exchange sheets is surrounded by a support frame which holds the sheets against separation. One end of the support frame is mounted on the engine body and restrained against vertical, fore-and-aft and sidewise movement relative to the engine body. The other end of the support frame is mounted on the engine body by a double pivot link assembly which restrains that end against vertical and sidewise movement but allows fore-and-aft movement. A simple expansion bellows joins the high-pressure air inlet of the heat exchanger to the engine body. A simple expansion bellows may be used to join either or both of the high-pressure air outlet and low-pressure hot exhaust gas inlet of the heat exchanger to the engine body.
