Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, control signaling for communications in a wireless communications system. The control signaling may indicate a first duration for an inactivity timer. The UE may initiate the inactivity timer and a second timer based on identifying a period of inactivity. The second timer may have a second duration that is shorter than the first duration for the inactivity timer. In some examples, the second duration may be based on one or more parameters, such as a display status, a battery status, a scaling factor, the first duration, an application state, or any combination thereof. The UE may release a connection for the communications in the wireless communications system based on an expiration of the second timer, an expiration of the inactivity timer, or a combination thereof.

Enhanced connection release techniques for wireless communications systems

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may obtain one or more communication parameters associated with one or more communications to be transmitted by the UE. The UE may transmit the one or more communications based at least in part on a congestion control algorithm selected from a set of candidate congestion control algorithms, the congestion control algorithm selected based at least in part on the one or more communication parameters. Congestion control algorithms

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. In some wireless communications systems, a receiving device, such as a user equipment (UE), may reduce packet congestion associated with communications between the receiving device and a transmitting device, such as a server, via a radio access network (RAN). The receiving device may measure congestion metrics associated with receiving data packets from the transmitting device via the RAN. The congestion metrics may include RAN congestion metrics and transport or application layer congestion metrics associated with the network connection between the receiving device and the transmitting device. The receiving device may estimate packet congestion at the receiving device according to the measured congestion metrics. The receiving device may modify connection parameters of the network connection based on the estimated packet congestion. The receiving device may communicate with the transmitting device over the network connection in accordance with the modified connection parameters.

Downlink congestion control optimization

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment may establish a communication connection with a serving cell associated with a first discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle configuration, determine, based at least in part on at least one of a first on duration of a first DRX cycle indicated by the first DRX cycle configuration or a type of traffic of one or more communications received during the first DRX cycle, an autonomous measurement gap associated with a neighboring cell, and perform a measurement of the neighboring cell during the autonomous measurement gap. Techniques for discontinuous reception cycle based measurement gaps

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may establish a radio resource control (RRC) connection with a base station. The UE may receive, from the base station, parameters associated with a set of frequency bands, the parameters indicating a priority of each frequency band of the set of frequency bands. The UE may then measure, based on the priority, one or more frequencies of at least one frequency band of the set of frequency bands. The UE may then transmit, after a time delay and to the base station, a measurement report including measurements of one or more frequency bands of the set of frequency bands.
