The present disclosure relates to a self-powered utility delivery system that includes an energy generator that produces electrical energy and consequently regulates a pressure of utility flowing through the self-powered utility delivery system. Additionally, the self-powered utility delivery system includes an electronic utility meter that monitors a quantity (e.g., volume) of utility that flows through the self-powered utility delivery system and toward a consumer.

An electronic flow meter that is configured to use localized flow conditions to determine volumetric flow. The embodiments may include a body forming a pass-through channel and a by-pass channel; a semiconductor device comprising a sensor disposed proximate the by-pass channel, the sensor configured to generate a signal with data that reflects localized pressure and localized temperature of a stream in the by-pass channel; and a processing component coupled with the sensor to receive and process the signal so as to identify a flow condition for the stream, select a calculation for volumetric flow rate in response to the flow condition, use data for localized pressure and localized temperature in the calculation to generate a value for the volumetric flow rate; and generate an output with data that reflects the value for the volumetric flow rate.

A system for metering gas includes a housing configured to allow a flow of the gas between an input port and an output port. Further, the system includes a flow manager disposed in the housing and configured to modify at least one physical characteristic of the flow of the gas in the housing. Furthermore, the system includes a flow sensor disposed in the housing and configured to generate an electrical signal in response to flow characteristics of the gas in the housing. Moreover, the system also includes a processor configured to determine at least one flow parameter of the gas based on an amplitude characteristic of the electrical signal, a temporal characteristic of the electrical signal, or both the amplitude characteristic and the temporal characteristic of the electrical signal. A method for metering the gas is also presented.

A monitoring system includes a capacitor can having one or more capacitors. The monitoring system includes an antenna. The monitoring system includes at least one sensor disposed within the capacitor can and configured to detect an operating characteristic associated with health of the one or more capacitors of the capacitor can. The monitoring system includes a processor configured to receive a first signal from the at least one sensor indicative of the operating characteristic. The processor is configured to send a second signal, via the antenna, indicative of a value of the operating characteristic to a receiving device outside of the capacitor can.

A system for metering gas a fluid stream includes a primary conduit and a secondary conduit coupled to the primary conduit such that the secondary conduit receives a portion of a fluid stream passing through the primary conduit. A flow manager disposed in the primary conduit is configured to maintain a predetermined relationship between at least one first physical characteristic of the fluid stream and at least one second physical characteristic of the portion of the fluid stream. A sensor measures a flow characteristic of the portion of the fluid stream and a processor determines a flow parameter of the fluid stream based, at least in part, on the predetermined relationship and one of an amplitude or temporal characteristic of the electrical signal.

A machine includes a first machine substrate and a second machine substrate and a monitoring system for the machine. The monitoring system includes a sensor subsystem including a sensor substrate integral with the first machine substrate and at least one sensor electromagnetic structure coupled to at least a portion of the sensor substrate. The at least one sensor electromagnetic structure includes at least one sensor conducting sub-component. The at least one sensor electromagnetic structure is configured to regulate electromagnetic fields incident thereto in response to at least one measurement characteristic of a machine measurand. A monitoring system for the machine includes a sensor subsystem that includes a first portion of the machine substrate and a portion of the machine dielectric layer formed over the first portion of the machine substrate. The monitoring system also includes a sensor electromagnetic structure disposed on the portion of the machine dielectric layer. The sensor electromagnetic structure includes at least one sensor conducting subcomponent. The sensor electromagnetic structure is configured to regulate electromagnetic fields incident thereto in response to at least one measurement characteristic of a machine measurand. The sensor subsystem is configured to obtain at least one measurement characteristic of the machine measurand proximate a machine sensing position.

The present disclosure relates to a self-powered utility delivery system that includes a regulator that decreases a pressure of the utility flowing through the self-powered utility delivery system while producing electrical energy as a result of pressure regulation. Additionally, the self-powered utility delivery system includes an electronic utility meter that monitors a quantity (e.g., volume) of utility that flows through the self-powered utility delivery system and toward a consumer.

A well integrity inspection system configured to inspect a well structure including multiple concentric layers. The well integrity inspection system includes an inspection probe positioned in the well structure. The inspection probe includes a plurality of excitation assemblies for transmitting a plurality of radiation emissions into the well structure. The plurality of excitation assemblies includes at least a neutron excitation assembly and an X-ray excitation assembly. The inspection probe also includes a plurality of detection assemblies configured to receive a plurality of backscatter radiation returns from the well structure. The plurality of detection assemblies includes at least a neutron detection assembly and an X-ray detection assembly. The well integrity inspection system further including a processor operatively coupled to the inspection probe. The processor is configured to determine a well integrity parameter of the well structure based on at least one of the plurality of backscatter radiation returns.

A remote monitoring system is presented. The system includes a sensor unit disposed in the electrical device, and configured to obtain measurement characteristics in response to a measurand of the electrical device, obtain reference characteristics insensitive to the measurand of the electrical device, and communicate the measurement characteristics and the reference characteristics using time varying electromagnetic fields. Further, the system includes a reader unit to establish a far-field communication with the sensor unit in the presence of at least one metallic interferer in the electrical device, wherein the reader unit is configured to receive the time varying electromagnetic fields associated with the measurement characteristics and the reference characteristics in response to a radio frequency signal transmitted to the sensor unit, and determine the measurand of the electrical device based on at least one property of the received time varying electromagnetic fields associated with the measurement characteristics and the reference characteristics.

System and method for monitoring characteristics of an electrical device

An implantable device system is disclosed. The implantable device system includes, a first energy transceiver system, a second energy transceiver system at least partially implanted within an organic tissue and capable of communication with the first energy transceiver system, and a sensing system capable of communication with the second energy transceiver system. A filtering device is positioned between the X-ray source and the X-ray detector and includes one or more micro-filters each adapted to transition between an X-ray filtering position and an X-ray non-filtering position. Systems and method for flow sensing are provided. One system includes a flow conduit configured to allow fluid flow therethrough, a flow disturber disposed in the flow conduit and configured to impart a flow disturbance to the fluid flow and an actuator operably connected to the flow disturber to control the flow disturber to impart the flow disturbance to the fluid flow. The system further includes a plurality of sensors disposed in the flow conduit that are configured to have a geometrical and functional relationship with the flow conduit and the flow disturber, wherein the plurality of sensors are responsive to flow characteristics in the flow conduit. The system also includes a processor operably coupled to the plurality of sensors and configured to determine a flow rate of the fluid flow in the flow conduit using timing characteristics to select a processing method.

Systems and methods for hybrid flow sensing

Systems and methods for flow sensing in a conduit are provided. One system includes a flow disturber disposed in a flow conduit and configured to impart a flow disturbance to the fluid flow. The system further includes a plurality of flow sensors disposed in the flow conduit and responsive to flow characteristics in the flow conduit. The system also includes a frequency resolver configured to determine frequency information related to the fluid flow based on the flow characteristics. The frequency resolver uses one or more time sample windows to select data samples for use in determining the frequency information, wherein a length of one or more of the time sample windows is based at least in part on the flow characteristics. The system additionally includes a processor configured to determine a flow rate of the fluid flow in the flow conduit using the frequency information.
