A fuel injector is provided that includes various precise configuration parameters, including dimensions, shape and/or relative positioning of fuel injector features, resulting in improved efficiency of fuel flow through the fuel injector.

Fuel injector

The invention relates to a piston (), comprising a ring carrier () and a glass piston () for observing processes in a combustion chamber (B) of an internal combustion engine, wherein the glass piston () is placed upon the ring carrier () and is securely connected thereto in the region of an inner casing surface () of the ring carrier (). In order to avoid overly high heat strain in the glass piston (), the glass piston () is connected to the ring carrier () via at least one form-fit connection (), and preferably via a force-fit connection ().

A method for evaluating the state of a fuel-air mixture and/or the combustion in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, with sample signals of flame light signals being stored in a database, and with flame light signals of the combustion in the combustion chamber being detected and compared with the stored sample signals, and with an evaluation of the state being output in the case of coincidence between the measured and stored signal patterns. In order to enable the monitoring of the combustion in the simplest possible way the sample signals in the database are stored with the assigned emission values and an evaluation of the state of the combustion is performed with respect to the obtained emissions in the case of coincidence between the measured and stored signal patterns for the combustion chamber of the respective cylinder.

Method for evaluating the state of a fuel-air mixture

The invention relates to a method for evaluating the state of a fuel/air mixture and/or the combustion in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, with sample signals of flame light signals, preferably the flame intensity (F), with associated mixture states being saved to a database, with flame light signals, preferably the flame light intensity (F), of the combustion in the combustion chamber being detected and thus being compared with the saved sample signals, and with conclusions being drawn on the state of the mixture in the combustion chamber in the case of coincidence between measured and saved signal patterns. In order to enable a simple and precise monitoring of the mixture state and the combustion it is provided that a pressure measurement is also performed in the cylinder simultaneously with the detection of the flame light signals.

Method for evaluating the state of a fuel/air mixture

The invention relates to a measuring device () for detecting processes in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, comprising a pressure sensor () which is arranged to be inserted into a bore hole of the internal combustion engine which opens into a combustion chamber, with the pressure sensor () comprising at least one optical light guide () optically opening into the combustion chamber, and with an optical injection element () being arranged preferably in the opening region into the combustion chamber. In order to enable performing simultaneously a pressure measurement and optical combustion chamber monitoring at the same place of the combustion chamber, it is provided that the optical injection element () is soldered into a pressure membrane () of the pressure sensor () or into the housing () of the pressure sensor ().

A spark plug includes a longitudinal bore formed in a housing for receiving an insulator, with the housing having a first bore for receiving a pressure measuring device and a second bore for receiving a light guide which opens into the combustion chamber.

The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with a laser ignition device (), Q-switched, pumped solid-state laser with a pulsed pumped light source (), a solid laser crystal (), enclosed in a resonator, a Q-switch (), for increasing the power density, at least one output mirror () and a focussing device (), by means of which the laser beam () may be focussed in a combustion chamber.

Internal combustion engine

An optical sensor or emitter () used for monitoring combustion processes in a combustion chamber is provided with an optical element () on a side facing the combustion chamber and an optical fiber or fiber bundle () on a side opposite the combustion chamber, the optical element and optical fiber/fiber bundle being jointly held in a metal sleeve (). An annular gap filled with solder material () is provided between the optical element () and the inside of the metal sleeve ().

Optical sensor or emitter used for monitoring combustion processes

An optoelectronic measuring device for monitoring combustion processes in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine during operation includes optical sensors assigned to the combustion chamber and connected to an evaluation unit, the sensor ends on the side of the combustion chamber being essentially positioned in a plane and the sensors being aligned so that the individual viewing angles of the sensors will uniformly cover at least one predefined measuring sector of the combustion chamber. A simple way of localizing the origin of engine knocking in the combustion chamber is ensured by positioning the optical sensors in an essentially cylindrical component projecting into the combustion chamber with the sensor ends positioned essentially radially along the wall of the component.

Optoelectronic measuring device

An optoelectronic measuring device for monitoring combustion processes in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine during operation is provided with optical sensors which are connected to an evaluation unit. The optical sensors may be located in a seal element bounding the combustion chamber. To obtain high measuring quality in a simple manner, the optical sensors each include a lens assembly having a focusing lens whose flat end opposite the combustion chamber is coincident with the focal plane of the focusing lens and is abutted by an end of at least one optical fiber.

Optoelectric measuring device for monitoring combustion processes

For optical detection of the velocity of gas bubbles in the cooling liquid of an internal combustion engine, light is radiated into the coolant by means of at least one emitter, and the scattered light caused by the gas bubbles, or rather, the change in intensity of light radiation emitted into the coolant, is measured by an optical sensor. The scattered light or intensity change is measured in at least two adjacent areas, and the velocity of the bubbles is determined from the travel time between the measurement signals.

An optoelectronic measuring device for the purpose of observing and recording combustion processes in the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine during operation, includes optical sensors directed at the combustion chamber and connected to an evaluation unit. The optical sensors are integrated in a sealing element positioned in a plane cutting the combustion chamber, which will permit the performance of measurements without any modifications of the engine or the geometry of the combustion chamber.
