The invention relates to an inerting system as well as an inerting method for reducing oxygen in which an oxygen content which is predefinable and reduced in comparison to normal ambient air is set and maintained in the spatial atmosphere of an enclosed room (). To this end, the inerting system () comprises a compressor system () for compressing an initial gas mixture as well as a gas separation system () connected to the compressor system (). At least a portion of the oxygen contained within the compressed initial gas mixture is separated in the gas separation system (). The gas separation system () is designed to be selectively operated in either a VPSA mode or a PSA mode.

Inerting method and system for reducing oxygen

A device and a method for detecting scattered light signals is specified. A light source exposes a scattered light area in which particles may be present to light. With the objective of reducing costs and improving detection accuracy, the device comprises a plurality of optical sensors for detecting scattered light and an evaluation unit for evaluating the signals detected by the optical sensors, wherein the sensors are each arranged at a sensor angle relative to the incident axis of the incident light so as to detect scattered light from the scattered light area, wherein one of the plurality of optical sensors is a reference sensor, and wherein the evaluation unit is designed to relate the signal profiles of the other optical sensors to the signal profile of the reference sensor, wherein the signal profiles of the optical sensors serve in classifying any particles which may be present in the scattered light area.

Device and method for detecting scattered light signals

The present invention relates to an inerting method for extinguishing a fire in a closed room in which the oxygen content in the closed room is reduced to a specific inerting level within a given time (x), as well as a device for carrying out the method. In order to achieve the most exacting design possible to the inert gas fire-extinguishing system used during the inerting method, and in particular the most precise dimensioning possible to the inert gas to be provided, while simultaneously adhering to the required fire-fighting stage and re-ignition prevention stage necessary when extinguishing fires, the invention provides for the inerting level to be kept to the re-ignition prevention level within a given regulation range.

An inertization method for preventing fire or explosion in a first enclosed protected area by lowering the oxygen content in the protected area to a base inertization level relative-to the ambient air. With the objective of eliminating any danger to people or processes within the protected area, the method according to the invention provides for measuring the oxygen content in the protected area, comparing it to a threshold (maximum inertization level), and in the event it falls below the threshold (maximum inertization level), introducing fresh air into the protected area(s).

Inertization method for preventing fires

This method makes it possible, with highest possible precision and without any major expense, to determine the air tightness of an enclosed space. Specifically, it introduces a method which, on demand and in effective yet easy-to-implement fashion, permits at any time the updated determination of the existing air tightness of the enclosed space without requiring a complex test series. To that effect, the first step according to the method is to define a concentration gradient between the internal air atmosphere of an enclosed space and the ambient air atmosphere by setting the physical concentration of at least one constituent component of the space-internal air atmosphere, in particular of oxygen, at a value that differs from the physical concentration value of that minimum of one corresponding component in the ambient air atmosphere. This is followed by a determination of the concentration change rate in that, in the space-internal air atmosphere, the time-based change of the physical concentration of the minimum of one constituent component is measured. Finally, taking into account the previously determined concentration change rate, the air-tightness value of the enclosed space is calculated.

Method and apparatus for supplying additional air in a controlled manner

A device for the prevention and extinguishing of fires is specified having the objective of providing an inert gas fire extinguishing system which is configured in accordance with the invention such that no breaches to ceilings or walls need be made when mounting the supply line system () during installation of the fire extinguishing system in a target area (), and also having the further objective of dispensing with separate storage areas for the pressurized oxygen-displacing gas () used as extinguishing agent, wherein a buffer reservoir (), the supply line system () and extinguishing nozzles () are arranged as a compact modular unit right within target area () itself.

Device for preventing and extinguishing fires

The invention relates to an inert rendering method for preventing and/or extinguishing fires in enclosed spaces, wherein an oxygen-inhibiting gas is introduced into the target area in order to adjust a first basic level of inertion with a reduced oxygen content in comparison with natural conditions, and wherein an oxygen-inhibiting gas is further introduced in a gradual or sudden manner (in the case of a fire) into the target area in order to adjust one or more levels of inertion with a similarly reduced oxygen content. The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the method, comprising an oxygen-measuring device in the target area and a source of an oxygen-inhibiting gas. The aim of the invention is to provide an inert rendering method and device for carrying out said method enabling the storage of extinguishing gas needed to extinguish a fire in a simple, economical manner without having to resort to premises which are normally specially provided therefor.

Inert rendering method with a nitrogen buffer

Fire sources or gas impurities are detected and located in one or several monitoring chambers by a device having a main detector for detecting a fire characteristic value or a gas impurity, into which a part of the ambient air in the monitoring chambers is continuously injected by an intake unit through a line, arranged in each monitoring chamber and provided with intake ports. The advantages of gas inlet systems, such as an active intake and a concealed assembly, is therefore combined with the advantage of the localization of each intake port as well as the detection of a precise fire source or a precise gas impurity. To this end, the device is provided with a sub-detector, arranged on or in the area of at least one intake port per monitoring chamber, for detecting a fire characteristic value or a gas impurity. The sub-detector is capable being switched on by a switch-on signal transmitted by a controller according to a detection signal delivered by the main detector.
