An electromagnetic actuator for operating a driven component includes first and second electromagnets having respective first and second pole faces oriented toward one another and defining a space therebetween; an armature disposed between the electromagnets and movable back and forth between the first and second pole faces in a direction of motion; a driving component attached to the armature for moving therewith as a unitary structure; and a resetting spring unit attached solely to the driving component or the driven component and exerting forces opposing movements of the armature caused by electromagnetic forces generated by the electromagnets. The resetting spring unit is in a relaxed state when the armature is in a mid position between the first and second pole faces and is in an armed state upon movement of the armature from the mid position in either direction. A mechanism connects the driving component with the driven component for effecting a transmission of moving forces from the driving component to the driven component to cause displacements of the driven component as a function of displacements of the armature and the driving component.

Electromagnetic actuator, particularly for driving an engine valve

An electromagnetic actuator for operating a driven component includes first and second electromagnets having respective first and second pole faces oriented toward one another and defining a space therebetween; an armature disposed in the space and movable back and forth between the first and second pole faces; a driving component attached to the armature for moving therewith as a unit; and a resetting spring assembly coupled to the armature and exerting forces opposing movements of the armature caused by electromagnetic forces generated by the electromagnets. The resetting spring assembly is in a relaxed state when the armature is in a mid position between the first and second pole faces. A coupling device connects the driving component with the driven component for effecting a transmission of pushing and pulling forces from the driving component to the driven component to cause displacements of the driven component as a function of displacements of the armature and the driving component. The coupling device includes a length-compensating arrangement between the driving and driven components.

A centrifugal governor for an internal combustion engine having a bosshead (2) which can be displaced axially along a governor driving shaft (1) by centrifugal weights (3) and a governor lever (7), the pivoted position of which is controlled by the axial movement of the bosshead (2). Axial motion of the bosshead (2) is converted to pivotal motion of the governor lever (4) by a pair of bearings (5) mounted on the latter and having outer raceways (6) which roll on the bosshead (2).

Centrifugal governor for internal combustion engines

A governor for injection pumps of diesel internal combustion engines in which the injection amount is controlled by the boost pressure. The governor is mounted directly on the crank casing of the internal combustion engine together with an electromagnet which is energized at startup. The governor and the electromagnet transmit thrust and motion to the control rod of the injection pump through the same lever system. The electromagnet is switched in such a way that it overrides the governor during the engine starting process. The lever system is constructed to produce a nonlinear transmission of the movement of the membrane to the control rod.

An diesel internal combustion engine with a liquid-cooled cylinder crank casing (1) includes a cylinder head gasket (300) which can be used with either a liquid-cooled cylinder head (200) or an air-cooled cylinder head (100).

Diesel internal combustion engine

A cooling circuit (5) for an internal combustion engine in which a throttle (2) is provided upstream of a heat exchanger (10, 11). The throttle (2) equalizes the oil pressure in the internal combustion engine in front of the heat exchangers and insures that this occurs almost independently of the temperature of the oil. By this provision, the heat exchangers can be fabricated with the least expense since the danger of bursting is reduced.

Internal combustion engine

An air-cooled block cylinder head adapted for mounting on an open-deck cylinder casing of an internal combustion engine. In order to maintain a tight seal of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing, the combustion chamber floor of the cylinder head is designed to be deflected in a manner that does not adversely affect the sealing of the cylinder head to the cylinder casing. This is achieved by designing the cooling chamber side of the cylinder head floor with a gradually changing floor wall thickness in the area directly above the cylinder combustion chamber. In the preferred designs, the combustion chamber floor is designed to be concave or convex. The cylinder head also includes features for effectively cooling the combustion chamber floor and for isolating the exhaust conduit.

Cylinder head

A device for regulating the delivery timing of injector pump elements is presented, whereby the injection pump elements are actuated by a camshaft of the internal combustion engine, said camshaft also being simultaneously employed to operate the intake and exhaust valves. All the cams are nonrotatably secured to the camshaft and the entire camshaft is rotatively adjusted relative to the crankshaft by a delivery timing regulator.

Each cylinder of a liquid cooled in-line internal combustion engine includes a cylinder pipe surrounded by an annular cooling chamber. The cooling chambers are interconnected in series by crossover passages between adjacent cylinder pipes and the cooling chambers have a greater cross sectional flow area on one side of the longitudinal central plane of the engine than on the other side. This cross sectional flow area relationship is reversed from cylinder to cylinder to thereby cause a meandering course of flow for a portion of the coolant thereby assuring adequate flow around the entire surface of the cylinder pipe and good flushing of the crossover passages between the cylinder pipes.
