A head rest for a vehicle seat includes: at least one first section that is oriented towards the head of the seat occupant, a second section, and a third section, wherein the second section is arranged essentially between the first and third sections. In the event of an accident, the first section can be displaced in the direction of displacement, due to the effect of a relative displacement of the second section from a working position into a safety position in the direction of the head of the seat occupant. The relative movement of the sections is a rotation about an essentially parallel rotational axis in the direction of displacement. A mounting of the first section in relation to the second section is provided during the relative displacement about the rotational axis. The first section comprises a first bearing surface and the second section comprises a second bearing surface.

Head rest for a vehicle

A head rest for a vehicle seat has at least one first section of the head rest that is oriented towards the head of the seat occupant, a second section, a third section, and a blocking device in which the second section is arranged essentially between the first and third sections. The first section can be displaced, due to the relative displacement of the second section, from a working position into a safety position and a comfort position. The blocking device blocks or minimizes the displacement of the first section of the head rest. The blocking device is asymmetrical in relation to a central plane of the head rest and can be actuated by an actuation element that is arranged symmetrically in relation to the central plane.

A locking device and a headrest are disclosed. The locking device includes spring elements, which can be engaged in at least one locking position and the locking device can be displaced in relation to at least two retaining bars that have a large number of recesses. The spring elements co-operate with the recesses in such a way that the engagement of the spring elements in their locking position locks the locking device in relation to the retaining bars. According to the invention, the spring elements are configured in such as way that the retaining bars are locked by the mechanical fixing of the spring elements in their central zone or by exertion of a force on the spring elements in their central zone.
