A socket, which receives a tool having a cylindrical shaft and which is mounted for rotation to rotate the tool, has an outer sleeve which receives a clamping sleeve and a ram for engaging a first end of the clamping sleeve. The first end of the clamping sleeve is provided with slots defining resilient tongues which are moved from a clamping position radially outward to a position for releasing the shaft by engagement with the ram. The ram has either an outer conically tapered surface or partially conically outer tapered surfaces on projections which engage inner tapered surfaces of each of the tongues or fingers. Preferably, the tapers of the ram and fingers are selected so that only substantially a line contact is formed therebetween to reduce the force necessary to move the fingers or tongues radially outward to the declamping or disengaging position.

Socket to clampingly hold dental tools

A coupling device which enables coupling different types of dental handpieces or devices to a supply hose characterized by a pin-shaped coupling member which has a electrical lamp at a free end for supplying light to a waveguide in the dental device for discharge adjacent the head portion of the dental device and an arrangement of contacts for supplying electrical energy to contacts of a dental device to operate a lamp integrally formed in the dental device. Thus, the coupling device can interchangeably handle a dental device which has an integral lamp or a dental device which utilizes a light waveguide to conduct light from an outside light source to the operating area.

Coupling device for dental handpieces

A flexible film cassette for holding a dental x-ray film on the outside of a patient's mouth for exposure from a radiation source from an x-ray diagnostic installation or device in which an applicator is capable of being inserted intraorally in the patient's mouth characterized by a first support extending between an applicator and the cassette and a second support spaced an interval from the axis of the first support for forming a coupling between the film and the housing of the x-ray device to prevent rotation of the cassette relative to the applicator.

Flexible film cassette

A mobile dental unit having a housing of a tabletop height and having a width which is less than the height, the housing on a narrow side being provided with a plurality of side-by-side storage receptacles for dental handpieces, each of the dental handpieces having the supply hose extending through the receptacle to a source with take up devices for each of the supply hoses characterized by the receptacles of the handpiece being arranged in two separate rows with the first row containing primary dental handpieces and the second row containing receptacles for secondarily used handpieces, the first row of receptacles being disposed adjacent the top of the housing and the second row being disposed beneath the first row, a guide pulley for each of the receptacles of the first row being supported adjacent the receptacle and immediately below the top of the housing and the take up devices for each of the supply hoses of the first row including means for retracting the supply hoses into the housing when the handpieces are not in use. The first row of receptacles is movable either by pivoting from a storage position to a working position or can be slid from a withdrawn storage position in the housing to an exposed working position. The second row of receptacles is mounted in the housing for pivoting between the storage and working position. In one embodiment of the invention, a coupling member is provided so that both rows pivot simultaneously between the working and storage position.

Mobile dental unit

A dental handpiece which has a connecting fitting for attachment to a supply hose having at least one agent supply line, a head section having a compressed air drive motor, a grip portion extending between the fitting and head section and a passage in each of said head section, grip portion and fitting for compressed air and a separate passage in each of these for any additional desired agents, characterized by the grip portion having a tubular sleeve portion, which is connected to the head section and receives the passage for compressed air and any other passages for agents, if present, and means detachably connecting the grip portion to the connecting fitting and includes means enabling relative rotation of the sleeve portion to the fitting so that the sleeve portion and each passage of the head section are rotatable relative to the fitting and each passage therein. Preferably, the head section and the sleeve portion are a single component and the handpiece will include a valve means for controling the flow of at least one of the agents to the head section.

Dental handpiece

A dental handpiece includes a base member detachably connected to a hollow portion of a grip piece which has a turbine head with at least one consumer point which includes a pressure-driven turbine. To convey a pressure medium from a supply hose, a separate flexible conduit for each type of medium extends through a separate passageway in the base member to terminate at a common connecting member which has a passage for each conduit and is held in communication with fixed bores or ducts in the turbine head. The connecting member is held in fluid communication either by a spring or by a threaded fastener. In order to control the amount of fluid flowing through each of the flexible conduits, each flexible conduit may be provided with means for partially collapsing the conduit to cause a restriction in the flow through volume.

Dental turbine handpiece

A coupling device for detachably connecting a medical device, such as a dental handpiece, which requires at least one operating medium selected from a group consisting of electrical currents, propulsion gas, auxiliary gas, water and light and has a conduit for each of the required mediums, to a supply tube containing feed lines for at least one of the operating mediums characterized by the coupling device including a pair of coupling halves having coacting coupling links, and means for holding the coupling halves in coupling engagement. Each of the coacting coupling links is located in a specific spatial position in accordance with a pattern so that the coupling half attached to the supply tube can be utilized for coupling a different medical device which requires different selected operating mediums.

A dental X-ray diagnostic installation in which an X-ray tube has an X-ray image intensifier associated therewith, and that means are provided which permit an alignment of its inlet screen with the focus of the X-ray tube. The X-ray image intensifier, during the carrying out of radioscopies, receives the X-radiation emanating from the patient and amplifies the radiation. Accordingly, it thereby permits the observation of the presently produced X-ray image either directly through an optical device associated with its outlet screen, or indirectly through the intermediary of a video system connected to the output thereof.

Dental X-ray diagnostic installation

A dental handpiece which includes a driving motor located within an essentially cylindrical housing; energy means infeed conduits for the motor and a supply hose containing at least one cooling medium infeed conduit being connectable to one end of the housing through the intermediary of a connector part, and also containing an energy supply conduit for the motor; and to whose other end there is attachable a gripping member onto a drive shaft extending out of the housing, so as to be readily exchangeable, the gripping member being rotatable with respect to the housing, containing a head portion with a work tool at the free end thereof, and at least one conduit for conveying the cooling medium from the connecting portion for the supply hose to the head portion of the gripping member. The cooling medium conduit is divided along the motor housing and the gripping member into two fixedly displaced conduit portions which are interconnectable between the housing and the gripping member by means of coupling means located concentrically with the drive shaft, a power-transmission shaft engaging with the latter.

Motor-driven dental handpiece

An arrangement for the switching on-and-off of a pressurized medium flow and, more particularly a pressurized medium flow which is conducted to a valve through a pressure medium conduit, and then further conducted from there to a withdrawing or extracting location. The valve is supported on a holder so as to be supportable thereon between two end positions, and is so constructed as to block the pressurized medium flow in one of the end positions and to release it in the other end position, and including actuating means which are coupled with the valve which, upon actuation, will displace the valve in a context of positional change thereof.
