Paper with a grammage of 10-100 g/mincluding at least 20 wt. % of microfilaments and at least 20 wt. % of a non-resinous binder, the microfilaments having an average filament length in the range of 2-25 mm and titer less than 1.3 dtex, the non-resinous binder comprising at least one of fibrid or pulp. The paper shows high strength and other attractive properties.

An aramid-based paper comprising at least 90 wt. % of aramid material, the aramid material including at least one of aramid shortcut and aramid fibrid, the paper including at most 40 wt. % aramid pulp, calculated on the total amount of aramid material, wherein the paper includes 0.1-10 wt. % of polyamido-amine epichlorohydrin (PAE). It has been found that the incorporation of 0.1-10 wt. % of polyamido-amine epichlorohydrin (PAE) into an aramid-based paper including at least 90 wt. % of aramid material calculated on the weight of the paper not including the PAE, the aramid material including at least one of aramid shortcut and aramid fibrid, the paper including at most 40 wt. % aramid pulp, leads to a surprising improvement of the z-strength and the tear strength of the paper.

Paper with a grammage of 10-100 g/mincluding at least 20 wt. % of microfilaments and at least 20 wt. % of a non-resinous binder, the microfilaments having an average filament length in the range of 2-25 mm and titer less than 1.3 dtex, the non-resinous binder comprising at least one of fibril or pulp. The paper shows high strength and other attractive properties.

A sheet material includes 30-70 wt. % of aramid pulp, 30-70 wt. % of a fire-retardant short fiber material selected from para-aramid, glass fibers, carbon fibers, and PEEK (polyether etherketone), and 0.5-15 wt. % of a polymer binder, wherein the sheet material is a non-woven sheet material having an areal weight of 10-70 g/m. The sheet material is soft, pliable, and light weight. It can be applied as backing onto upholstery material without detrimentally affecting the properties thereof. At the same time, the sheet material has very good fire-retardant properties.

A ballistic-resistant molded article comprising a compressed stack of sheets comprising reinforcing elongate bodies and an organic matrix material, the direction of the elongate bodies within the compressed stack being not unidirectionally, wherein the elongate bodies are tapes with a width of at least 2 mm and a thickness to width ratio of at least 10:1 with the stack comprising 0.2-8 wt. % of an organic matrix material.

The invention discloses a process for refining yarn or sliver having a length of at least 1 meter, including the step of feeding the yarn or sliver and a liquid into a refiner, which includes refiner fillings having a body surrounding a central hole (), and at least one inlet () for the yarn or sliver, and the thus obtained pulp-like materials and its use for making friction materials, paper, and gaskets. In particular, the refiner has a refiner filling (), wherein the yarn or sliver is fed through an inlet positioned in the refiner filling. The present invention further relates to the refiner filling including at least one, preferably eccentric, inlet for yarn or sliver. The inlet comprises an inlet hole which includes an inclined slope () on the outflow side of the inlet, the inclined slope serving to guide the yarn or sliver from the inlet hole to the surface of the refiner filling. The invention further relates to a refiner including such refiner filling.
