In a power generator unit composed of a generator and a piston internal combustion engine as the drive, the rotor is driven by the crankshaft of the diesel engine, and carries permanent magnets to excite the generator while the stator of the generator is arranged within the rotor and carries the rotor winding of the generator. The stator of the generator is divided, for the purpose of voltage regulation, into an outside stator part that forms an air gap with the rotor, and an inside stator part that forms a control air gap with the outside stator part that surrounds it, and is mounted to rotate, relative to the outside stator part, in such a manner that the geometry of the control air gap changes with the rotational position, and that the rotation takes place as a function of the variations in the terminal voltage of the generator.

A fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine includes at least one pump piston movably disposed in a piston sleeve which piston sleeve is fitted in a pump housing. A first arrangement associated with the piston draws fuel through suction ports into a working chamber of the pump during a piston suction stroke. A second arrangement associated with the piston cuts off a connection to a suction side of the pump and thereafter initiates a delivery from the working chamber to an injection nozzle, which delivery is divided into two phases. The second arrangement is operable during a piston delivery stroke. A third arrangement controls the phases and includes the suction ports and an inside edge of the piston sleeve. A starting handle for internal combustion engines. A hand crank and a starting shaft are connected to an appropriate element of the engine to be started. A driving mechanism is provided between the hand crank and the starting shaft, so that when the hand crank is turned in the starting direction, the hand crank drives the starting shaft and thereby the engine element. The driving mechanism is released in the event of kickback of the starting shaft and movement thereof in the direction opposite to the direction of starting. A weighted element is provided independent of the engine and is mounted coaxially with respect to the starting shaft. The weighted element is held by gravity in a vertical position and, in the event of kickback, is restrained from movement from the vertical to cause the driving mechanism between the hand crank and the starting shaft to be released.

A mechanism for actuating valves of an internal combustion engine includes a rotatably supported shaft having a cam surface thereon and a movably supported cam follower slidably engaging the cam surface at a first location. A second cam follower member slidably engages the cam surface at one of a second and a third location thereon when the shaft is respectively rotating in one of a first direction and a direction opposite thereto, the second and third locations being spaced from the first location in opposite directions by equal angular distances. The first and second cam follower members are each operatively coupled to a respective valve of the engine.

Mechanism for actuating the valve rockers of an internal combustion

An internal combustion engine has a reservoir containing oil which is circulated through passageways in the engine by an oil pump to lubricate and cool the engine. A tube has a spiral portion located in the reservoir and a cooling liquid, preferably water, is pumped through the tube to cool the heated oil in the reservoir. The water is thus heated and subsequently enters and discharges this heat in a heat receiver which is preferably part of a home-heating system. In a preferred embodiment, the heating system includes a heat pump which is operatively coupled to the heat receiver, the compressor of the heat pump being driven by the engine. In another preferred embodiment, a portion of the engine exhaust pipe extends through the reservoir so that heat from the gases passing through the pipe is at least partially transferred to the oil in the reservoir.

A single cylinder internal combustion engine has a piston which drives a crankshaft and flywheel through a connecting rod and has a counterweight arrangement which balances forces produced by the moving engine elements. The counterweight arrangement includes a weight on the crankshaft and two weights on the flywheel which fully balance the forces produced by rotating motion of the engine parts and partially balance the forces produced by reciprocal motion of the engine parts. Two balance shafts are provided which are parallel to and driven synchronously with the crankshaft. The balance shafts have respective first weights thereon which complete the balance of forces produced by the reciprocating motion of engine parts and have respective second weights thereon which balance the moment of the first weights with respect to the axis of the cylinder.

A drive unit for a compressor which is used in a heat pump. The drive unit includes a fuel-injection internal combustion engine which is coupled with the compressor and a starter associated with said engine and is fed from multiphase electric power supply lines. The starter is connected to the electric power supply by means of a switch. The starter is constructed as an electromagnetic drive motor having a stator and a rotor secured to the engine crankshaft and serving at least partly as a flywheel. The coil windings on the stator are fed current from the power source.

Cooling air is drawn in through openings in the paneling to subject the external surface of the engine body to the cooling air. The panels are lined with a sound absorbing material. The sound emitted from the air filter is muffled by arranging the air intake thereto so that it passes first in and around the engine and then through an intake pipe from the chamber defined by the paneling into the air filter.
