A V-type internal-combustion engine has two banks of cylinders, each with a cylinder-head housing which is covered by cylinder-head cover and, on each end face, by an end cover. Camshafts are driven via chain wheels by a common chain which is led through a free space between the two banks of cylinders in a well housing. To reduce jumps in sealing surfaces which present sealing problems, the well housing is arranged at a distance from the parting planes between the cylinder-head housings and cylinder-head covers and is fastened solely between the cylinder-head housings and the end covers.

V-type internal-combustion engine

A liquid-cooled cylinder head is provided for an internal-combustion engine having a water space reaching from the cylinder head bottom to a cylinder head ceiling and having a control space located above it. Supporting walls extend in the cooling water space transversely between sections of the cylinder head bottom on the side of the combustion chamber. For reinforcement of the cylinder head housing, a longitudinal rib is provided in the water space within the cylinder head ceiling. In the planes of the supporting walls, rib webs are provided that overlap into sections of the cooling water space that are adjacent the combustion chamber. In the control space, a crossconnection is provided consisting of longitudinally and transversely extending ribs. The resultant cylinder head exhibits a reinforced structure having superior resistance to applied force.

The units extend toward a front if the internal combustion engine is arranged in a front compartment of the automotive vehicle and extend toward the rear beyond the internal combustion engine if the engine is disposed in a rear compartment. The units and optionally their drive elements are fashioned in such a way and/or are mounted to the internal combustion engine in such a manner that, in case of a collision, impact energy is absorbed at the units and/or their fasteners or mounting by the performance of deformation work, by overcoming frictional resistances, and/or by a displacement of viscous substances against a resistance.

An arrangement for mounting driven or non-driven assemblies on or to an internal combustion engine mounted in a motor vehicle. The assemblies projecting forward beyond an end of the internal combustion engine when the engine is mounted in a front of the motor vehicle and projecting rearwardly beyond the engine when the engine is mounted in the rear of the motor vehicle. The assemblies are so mounted and/or fastened on or to the internal combustion engine that, in the event of a collision and/or an impact on the assemblies, such assemblies are displaceable in a direction of the internal combustion engine with a zero resistance and without expending any energy absorption.

Mounting or attaching arrangement for driven or non-driven assemblies

A thermostatic control valve for maintaining an essentially constant set value of an operating temperature of a liquid coolant which is conductible through a cooling jacket of an internal combustion engine. The thermostatic control valve includes a warm-up valve for suppressing a coolant flow at least in a partial area of the cooling jacket, a radiator valve for supplying coolant emerging from a coolant outlet of the cooling jacket to a radiator, and a bypass valve for returning the liquid coolant emerging from the cooling jacket bypassing the radiator to a coolant inlet of the cooling jacket. A single thermostatic regulating element, responsive to temperature changes and adapted to execute regulating movements is provided for actuating the radiator valve, bypass valve, and additionally actuating the warm-up valve.
