Devices for stacking sheet-fed paper or cardboard sheets (,) on pallets (,) are known to have a vertically stationary conveyor (,) at a height above the maximum stack level above the floor and a storage platform (,) which can be raised and lowered upon which the stacks are formed. An optical sensor (,) which senses the stack level is arranged at the input side prior to the stacking area to control the lowering of the storage platform (,). According to the invention, at least three optical sensors (,) are disposed below the conveyor level at a slight distance from each other in a vertical line. The maximum vertical distance between the two sensors (,) is 20 mm. By activating any two sensors (,), the drop in height of the sheets (,) can be set depending on the type of sheet and without the need for extensive adjustment upon a change in the type of sheet.

Device for stacking sheets, in particular sheet-fed paper or cardboard sheets delivered onto pallets

An apparatus for stacking sheets on pallets has a conveyor belt having horizontally extending upper and lower reaches extending through a stacking station with the upper reach defining a horizontal support plane and extending in an outfeed direction. Two sets of deflectors spaced apart in the outfeed direction engage the upper reach to form therein respective upwardly open U-shaped loops below the plane. A lift has a pair of support beams extending transverse to the direction and jointly displaceable between a lower position received in the respective loops and below the plane and an upper position above the plane. A succession of sheets is fed to the station to form on a pallet supported on the beams in the upper position thereof a stack of the sheets. The lift can be raised and lowered to displace it from the upper position to the lower position to deposit on the belt the pallet and stack of sheets on the beams. A drive advances the belt in the outfeed direction with the beams in the lower position to convey the stack of sheets hitherto supported on the beams away from the lift in the outfeed direction.

A clamping device for a sheet clamping machine comprises a pair of horizontal bars with tongues engaging on opposite sides of a sheet stack and drawn together to generate the clamping action by a piston-and-cylinder unit mounted on the back of the lower bar and having a piston connected to a cable which passes through the lower bar and then is guided vertically upwardly to the upper bar where that cable is attached. The cable thus applies a clamp closing force perpendicular to the bars.

A moveable skid is provided to sense the height of a pallet fed to a raisable and lowerable platform. The skid determines the height of the pallet before it is fed to a raisable and lowerable platform of a sheet stacking apparatus so that the position of the pallet below an intermediate stacking platform can be determined during the pallet change. This prevents adverse effects by nondetrimental projections above the surface of the pallet and prevents an excessive drop of the intermediate stack as it is transferred to the pallet.

A layboy for depositing sheets, especially sheets of paper, on a stack by count, with a layoff platform that travels up and down; forks that are positioned at the rear of the stack and that travel horizontally into and out of the vicinity of the stack and up and down; and an auxiliary stack platform that travels up and down and into the vicinity of the layoff platform behind the stack. To deposit sheets more rapidly onto relatively low stacks without losing sheets, the layboy includes at least three independently moving forks (20.1, 20.2 and 20.3); positioning mechanisms (23 and 25) that travel up and down behind the stack and engage and position the forks while they are in the vicinity of the stack; and a lift (24) positioned behind and away from the stack with a device (26) for gripping and moving the forks away from the stack, for lifting them up to the infeed level, and for introducing them into the vicinity of the stack and transferring them to the engaging and positioning mechanisms.

A device for stacking sheets, especially sheets of paper that arrive overlapped. The device has a layoff platform that can be raised and lowered, a separating mechanism that is positioned behind the stack, that can be raised and lowered, and that can be introduced into the vicinity of the top of the stack, especially between the uppermost sheet and the incoming stream of overlapping sheets, two compression jaws that are positioned at different heights at the rear of the stack, that can be raised and lowered, and that can be inserted into gaps created by the separating mechanism, and an auxiliary stacking platform that is positioned at the rear of the stack, that can be raised and lowered, and that can be introduced into the vicinity of the layoff platform immediately below the lower compression jaw. The object is to provide a device that is of particular advantage with respect to design. The two compression jaws (19 and 20) and the auxiliary stacking platform (21) are both accommodated in carrier (18) that can be raised and lowered by a vertical drive mechanism (23), whereby the downward motion of the carrier is synchronized with the downward motion of the layoff platform (2).
