A method, system and devices are provided for unidirectional transfer of data from a sender device () to a receiver device (). At the sender device, respective parts of the data are encoded to generate respective 2D barcodes, and the 2D barcodes are sequentially displayed on a display (). At the receiver device, an image sensor () is used to capture the sequentially displayed 2D barcodes to obtain a series of captured images, and in each or a subset of the series of captured images, detect a position of a respective 2D barcode in the captured image, scan the 2D barcode at the identified position to obtain barcode data, and decode the barcode data to, together with the barcode data obtained from other captured images, obtain a received version of the transmitted data.

Unidirectional transfer of data from sender to receiver

A display device includes a bottom support plate and an opposing top support plate. A pixel region is positioned between the bottom support plate and the top support plate. The pixel region includes a plurality of sub-pixels. A color filter layer is positioned within the pixel region. The color filter layer includes a plurality of color filters, wherein each color filter is positioned within a respective sub-pixel. A diffusion layer is positioned on a first surface of the top support plate between the top support plate and the color filter layer.

Electrowetting display device including diffuse color filter

Subject matter disclosed herein relates to improving luminance and reducing color shifts in electrowetting displays. The electrowetting display comprises a plurality of electrowetting elements separated by partition walls and spacers. The spacers and/or partition walls are reflective. When incident light that enters a pixel or subpixel is reflected and encounters a spacer and/or partition wall, the light is reflected such that the reflected light exits the pixel or subpixel into which the incident light entered. This improves luminance and reduces color shifts of the electrowetting display.

Reflectance in electrowetting displays

An electrowetting display comprises a support plate on which individual electrowetting pixels separated from one another by pixel walls are formed. The individual electrowetting pixels include an electrode layer on the support plate, a dielectric barrier layer on the electrode layer, a hydrophobic layer on the dielectric barrier layer, and quantum dots between the hydrophobic layer and the electrode layer. The quantum dots may utilize blue or white light illuminating the pixels to emit longer-wavelength colors such as red and green. Such a feature may enhance or replace functionality of color filters.

Electrowetting display pixels with quantum dots

A display device includes a first support plate and an opposing second support plate. At least a portion of a wall on the first support plate is associated with a pixel within a pixel region. The wall has a first segment, a second segment perpendicular to the first segment, and a third segment perpendicular to the first segment and parallel to the second segment. A first spacer on the second support plate extends toward the wall. The first spacer includes a first portion contacting the wall along a length of the first segment, a second portion coupled to the first portion and contacting the second segment along a first portion of the second segment, and a third portion coupled to the first portion and contacting the third segment along a first portion of the third segment.

Electrowetting display pixel walls and spacers

A display device () has a 3D display () for emitting at least two views of 3D image data to enable autostereoscopic viewing of 3D image data at multiple viewing positions (). A processor () processes the 3D image data () for generating the views for display on the 3D display, and a viewer detector () detects a viewer position of a viewer in front of the 3D display. The processor has a viewer conflict detector () for detecting and resolving viewer position conflicts. The detector obtains at least a first viewer position of a first viewer via the viewer detector, and detects a viewer position conflict at the first viewer position where said first view and second view do not provide the 3D effect for the first viewer. If so, the detector controls generating the views in dependence of the detected viewer position conflict. At least one of said at least two views as received by the first viewer is dynamically modified to signal or resolve the conflict.

Multiple viewer 3D display

The present disclosure relates to a backlight for illuminating back lit displays (e.g. LC displays of LCD televisions). In order to enable a thin design of the backlight and a high uniformity of the light emitted by the backlight, an apparatus may be provided with transparent and diffusing masking elements that may mask individual light sources and may diffuse light back into a light guide. Absorbing elements and/or retro-reflective elements may be arranged proximate the light sources in order to avoid generation of bright spots or rings around the light sources.

Lighting device

A method of gamut mapping maps an input image composed of pixels and having an input gamut (IG) defined by input RGB primaries (Ri, Gi, Bi) to a reproduction gamut (RG) defined by reproduction RGB primaries (Ro, Go, Bo). The reproduction gamut (RG) is narrower than the input gamut (IG). An input signal (RGBin) defined with respect to the input RGB primaries (Ri, Gi, Bi) is color transformed () into a transformed signal (RGBt) defined with respect to the reproduction RGB primaries (Ro, Go, Bo), whereby color information of the pixels (PPP) within the reproduction gamut (RG) is preserved. Scaling factors (SFi) indicating a distance between on the one hand pixels (PP, P) of the transformed signal (RGBt) which are outside the reproduction gamut (RG), and on the other hand an edge of the reproduction gamut (RG) are determined (). The scaling factors (SFi) of pixels (PPP) of the transformed signal (RGBt) are spatial low-pass filtered () to obtain filtered factors (FFi) for these pixels (P, P, P). Component signal values of the transformed signal (RGBt) of the pixels (PPP) are corrected () in response to the filtered factors (FFi) to obtain reproduction signal values (RGBo) which are input values (RGBi) moved towards inside the reproduction gamut (RG).

To have an optimal use of a display for displaying particular, e.g. chromatically biased, image content, described is a method of calculating an optimal first and second backlight driving level, for a color display having a backlight which can be controlled to produce a first amount of light with a first spectrum in accordance with the first backlight driving level and a second amount of light with a second spectrum in accordance with the second backlight driving level, and the color display having a first and second light transmission valve plus color filter combination, arranged to create from the backlight spectra a respective first and second color primary light output, the chromaticity of at least one of the color primaries depending on the first and second backlight driving level, wherein the first and second backlight driving levels are determined so that a gamut of at least a part of a picture to be displayed is optimally covered by the gamut realizable by the display with the first and second backlight driving level.

Optimal backlighting determination apparatus and method

A color gamut mapping maps an input image signal which has input pixel colors defined by an input luminance and an input chromaticity into a mapped image signal which has corresponding mapped pixel colors defined by a mapped luminance and a mapped chromaticity for a display. The input pixel colors lie within the input color gamut different than the display color gamut. The desired mapped luminance may be retrieved by looking up stored desired luminance values in a look-up table at the mapped chromaticity, or by calculating a relative to white luminance, or a luminance decrease, etc.

Converting color primaries and luminances of an input signalt to different color primaries and luminances for a display

A display comprising a plurality sub-pixel display elements respectively displaying different colors, arranged into a plurality of single-row pixels, wherein for adjacent pixels, each sub-pixel display element associated with the first pixel bears a minimal spatial distance to a respective sub-pixel display element associated with the second pixel that represents a color having a maximum color distance with respect to the color represented by such sub-pixel display element, as compared to the color distance between the color represented by the sub-pixel display element and other colors.

Optimal subpixel arrangement for displays with more than three primary colors

A method of redistributing an N-primary color input signal (IS) having a particular number&#x2267;4 (N) of input components (I, . . . , IN) into N-primary color output signal (OS) having the particular number (N) of output components (P, . . . , PN) under a constraint (CON). The method comprises defining (MPRC) three functions (F, F, F) representing three (P, P, P) of the output components (P, . . . , PN) as a function of the remaining N-3 output components (P, . . . , PN).
