The dual bias is generated with a torsion spring captured between a fixed portion and a sliding portion that interacts with an extension from the fixed portion and an extension from the sliding portion based upon the shutter position.

An information handling system may include a retractable touchpad button bumper assembly, including touchpad buttons configured to move between first and second touchpad button positions dependent on whether a lid portion of the information handling system is open or closed with respect to a base portion to which it is rotationally coupled. When the lid is opened, the touchpad buttons may be lowered into their first touchpad button positions, where the touchpad buttons lie in a recess in the base portion and operate as input devices for a touchpad. When the lid is closed, the touchpad buttons may be raised up to their second touchpad button positions, which are higher than their first positions relative to the base portion, and may serve as a bumpers between the base portion and the lid portion. The assembly may receive a signal indicating the lid state from a proximity sensor circuit.

On initial interface, one data lane of the docking port establishes a temporary management interface, such as an I2C management bus, to configure the docking station. After configuration, a docking manager, virtual wireless access point and power block cooperate to assign data lanes of the docking port and wireless communication resources to information transfer and power transfer functions based upon processing and communication tasks performed at the information handling system.

Embodiments provide mechanisms for actuating the retraction of the keys of a retractable keyboard based on the angle of the rotation of a coupled display, such as in a 2-in-1 IHS (Information Handling System) that may be operated as a tablet or a laptop. In a first mode, where the display of the IHS is in a laptop configuration, the provided mechanisms actuate the retractable keys to their extended positions allowing use of the IHS as a laptop. As the user rotates the display to various tablet configurations, the provided mechanisms actuate the keycaps to a second mode, in which the keycaps are retracted and may be further disabled to promote use of IHS as a tablet. Certain embodiments utilize a gear and cam mechanism to link the rotation of the display to the actuation of the keycaps. Certain other embodiments utilize a gear and crank mechanism.

A docking station connects through a docking port and docking cable with an information handling system to support communication between the information handling system and docking station peripherals. The docking cable includes an integrated input device, such as a mechanical button or fingerprint scanner, which accepts an end user input to command a power state transition at the information handling system, such as a transition between an on state and a reduced power state. The power state transition is sent directly from the integrated input device to the information handling system or, alternatively, from the integrated input device to the docking station and then from the docking station to the information handling system.
