This disclosure relates to substantially atactic polymers of at least one of propylene, 1-butene or 1-pentene, processes for making such polymers and compositions including the polymers. The polymers may be used as lubricants or may be combined with low viscosity base stocks to form lubricants. The polymers may be made in the presence of a metallocene catalyst with a non-coordinating anion activator and optionally with hydrogen.

Base stocks and lubricant blends containing poly-alpha olefins

A lubricating oil composition comprising, or made by mixing, a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of at least one compound comprising a polynuclear molybdenum core having bonded thereto one or more monoanionic ligands capable of rendering the compound oil-soluble or oil-dispersible, and further comprising at least one ionic species that is not required to confer oil-solubility or oil-dispersibility to the compound, wherein the combination of said one or more monoanionic ligands and said at least one ionic species confers electrical neutrality to the compound and wherein the ratio of the number of molybdenum atoms in the core to the number of said ligands is greater than 1:1.

Lubricant compositions

The inventions disclosed herein are catalyst systems comprising a complex having one of the formulas LMX X and LML&prime; and an activating cocatalyst, and use of the catalyst system in polymerizing olefinic monomers. In either of the foregoing formulas, L is a chelating ligand containing sulfur donors; M is a transition metal selected from either copper, silver, gold, manganese, iron, cobalt, palladium or nickel; X and X are independently selected from either halides, hydride, triflate, acetate, borate, alkyl, alkoxyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkoxyl, aryl, thiolate, carbon monoxide, cyanate or olefins; and L&prime; is a bidentate ligand selected from either dithiolene, dithiolate, diphosphine, bisimine, bispyridine, phenanthroline, oxolate, catecholate, thiolatoamide, thiolatoimine or thiolatophosphine.

Sulfur-containing and sulfur-nitrogen-containing catalysts for polymerization of olefins and polar monomers

Oil-soluble or oil-dispersible trinuclear molybdenum-sulfur compounds are made by reacting, in a polar medium, a reactant molybdenum compound containing an anion that possesses a trinuclear molybdenum core, and a dithiocarbamate that is produced in situ.

Manufacture of lubricant additives

A lubricating oil composition is provided comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of, as an additive, at least one compound comprising a polynuclear molybdenum core and bonded thereto one or more anionic ligands capable of rendering the compound oil-soluble or oil-dispersible, wherein the ratio of the number of molybdenum atoms in the core to the number of said ligands is 1:1, such as 3:2 or greater.

The present invention provides for microporous ceramic materials having a surface area in excess of 70 m.sup.2 /gm and an open microporous cell structure wherein the micropores have a mean width of less than 20 Angstroms and wherein said microporous structure comprises a volume of greater than about 0.03 cm.sup.3 /gm of the ceramic. Also provided is a process for the preparation of the microporous ceramics of the invention involving pyrolysis of the composite intermediate under controlled conditions of heating up to temperatures of less than about 1100.degree. C. to form a microporous ceramic product.
