An air processing system is disclosed. The system includes a mobile robot, and the robot includes an intake module, the module includes a manifold, a first airfoil disposed on the manifold and configured to allow air of an area designed to have its air cleaned to enter the manifold, a second airfoil disposed one the manifold opposite the first airfoil configured to allow air from the area to enter the manifold, and a collector provided in between the first airfoil and the second airfoil and disposed on the manifold configured to receive air from the manifold and thus filter the air, and the system further includes a controller configured to provide one of remote control and autonomous control of the mobile robot.

Systems and methods for separating organic chloramines and inorganic chloramines from an aqueous solution. Such a method includes providing a first container containing an aqueous solution that includes organic and inorganic chloramines and free chlorine, providing a second container containing a trapping solution and a tubular hydrophobic membrane through which inorganic chloramines contained in the aqueous solution can diffuse into the trapping solution, pumping the aqueous solution from the first container through the tubular hydrophobic membrane of the second container; and collecting the aqueous solution pumped through the tubular hydrophobic membrane in a third container connected to the tubular hydrophobic membrane. After pumping is completed, the second container contains an aqueous solution containing the inorganic chloramines and the third container contains an aqueous solution containing the organic chloramines and the free chlorine.

Methods and systems for separation of chloramines in aqueous solutions

Provided is an ordered step-wise method for the chlorination and photodestruction of MC-LR contamination of an aqueous liquid such as a potable water supply infested with blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). It has been found possible to usefully chlorinate the water at lower chlorine:MC-LR ratios as compared to known methods and then to irradiate the water with ultraviolet radiation to photolyze the chlorinated MC-LR. The methods incorporate the prechlorination of a cyanotoxin, more advantageously a microcystin, and most advantageously MC-LR, to enhance UV-induced photodegradation of this compound.

Chlorination-UV process for decomposition and detoxification of microcystin-LR

Potable drinking water is a scarce resource in many parts of developing countries, especially rural areas. Due to limited financial means of these countries, low cost point-of-use systems are thought to be appropriate technology to treat water. Systems using solar ultraviolet (UV) radiation could be successful since many vulnerable countries are located where solar radiation is intense and abundant throughout the year. The goal of this disclosure is to develop a simple and low cost point-of-use solar UV reactor to disinfect water. In this disclosure wavelength-dependent microbial dose-response behavior was investigated using surrogates to pathogenic microbes. A solar radiation prediction method based on the SMARTS model was used to predict solar UV intensity as function of geographic location and time. A numerical modeling procedure using the discrete ordinate (DO) model and CFD software (FLUENT) was used to simulate UV dose (distribution) delivery to microorganisms. Then, the dose distribution was combined with the dose response behavior using a segregated flow model to predict microbial inactivation by the reactor. A prototype was produced and tested to validate the numerical modeling procedure. The inactivation results from the prototype were in agreement with numerical inactivation prediction. The modeling procedure permits parameters such as reactor dimensions and material properties to be varied to meet a treatment goal.

Continuous-flow solar ultraviolet disinfection system for drinking water

A method for photochemical reactor characterization includes an application of using dyed microspheres exposed to UV irradiation under a collimated-beam system. Particle specific fluorescence intensity measurements are conducted using samples form the collimated beam and flow-through reactor results using flow cytometry. A numerical model may be used to simulate the behavior of the reactor system to provide a particle-tracking algorithm to interrogate the flow and intensity field simulations for purposes of developing a particle specific estimate of the dose delivery. A method for measuring UV dose distribution delivery in photochemical reactors is provided that includes introducing microspheres labeled with a photochemically-active compound in a UV reactor. The labeled microspheres are harvested downstream of the irradiated zone of a UV reactor and exposed to UV irradiation under a collimated beam of UV irradiation. The method further includes quantifying a UV dose-response behavior, conducting fluorescence intensity measurement on the labeled microspheres from the UV reactor, and developing an estimate of a dose distribution delivered by a UV reactor based on the numerical deconvolution of the sum of the UV dose response behavior and fluorescent intensity of exposed microspheres.

The invention provides an immersible and portable module for irradiating fluids including a multiplicity of ultraviolet radiation producing lamp and a first header for receiving and maintaining in position the multiplicity of ultraviolet radiation-producing lamps, the first header having upstream and downstream ends and opposed sides. There is also a second header for receiving and maintaining in position the multiplicity of ultraviolet radiation-producing lamps, the second header having upstream and downstream ends and opposed sides. Fluid flow diverters are positioned between the first and second headers and located adjacent the opposed sides and are adapted to divert fluids flowing adjacent the opposed sides toward at least some of the ultraviolet radiation-producing lamps.
