Tamper-evident containers are disclosed, including a container body with a neck portion and an annular collar portion below the neck portion, and a closure for application to that container body. The closure includes a one-piece closure body including a horizontal end wall and a cylindrical side wall having a depending lower skirt portion with an inwardly projecting bead having a predetermined length. The intermediate side wall portion of said closure includes an area of weakness designed to fracture when the closure is removed from the container body so as to leave the depending lower skirt portion on the container body after the upper portion of the closure has been removed, and the annular collar portion of the container body includes an upper raised portion, a lower raised portion, and a central depressed portion therebetween, the central depressed portion having a diameter less than the diameter of the upper and lower raised portions, and having a length substantially corresponding to the predetermined length of the inwardly projecting bead. In this manner, the inwardly projecting bead can be locked between the upper raised portion and the lower raised portion in order to facilitate fracture of the frangible portion of the closure as the closure is removed from the container body.

A non-refillable fitment is provided in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. The non-refillable fitment takes the form of a hollow cylindrical housing having a valve seat disposed in a lower portion thereof. A valve in the form of an annular ring is provided within the housing and a vented retainer is inserted in an upper portion of the housing. The cylindrical housing may be inserted within the neck of a conventional bottle in much the same manner as a cork and when so inserted and the bottle is vertically disposed, the inner circumferential surface of said valve will seal against the valve seat and the outer circumferential surface of the valve will seal against an inner circumferential surface of the hollow cylindrical housing to prevent refilling. When the bottle is inclined to a pouring angle, the valve will be cocked against the retainer to permit pouring to take place.

Non-refillable fitment

Tamper-evident containers are disclosed, including a container having a neck portion and an annular collar portion located below the neck portion, and a closure for application to the container including a one-piece closure body having a horizontal end wall and a cylindrical side wall including an upper portion, a depending lower skirt portion, and an intermediate side wall portion therebetween. The depending lower skirt portion includes an inwardly projecting bead having an internal diameter which is no greater than the outer diameter of the container at a predetermined location directly below the annular collar portion, so as to provide an interference fit therebetween at that predetermined location when the closure is completely applied to the container. The intermediate side wall portion includes an area of weakness which is designed to fracture when the closure is removed from the container, so as to leave the depending lower skirt portion on the container after the upper portion has been removed, and the container includes an inwardly directed non-locking tapered surface at that predetermined location, whereby after fracture of the closure at the area of weakness the depending lower skirt portion is caused to move downwardly along the non-locking tapered surface and away from the annular collar portion to provide visual evidence of fracture.

Tamper-evident closures which are useful in conjunction with various bottles and containers are disclosed. The closures are intended to be used in connection with containers having threaded necks above an annular collar, and they comprise one-piece closures including a horizontal end wall, a cylindrical side wall including an internally threaded upper portion, a depending lower skirt portion which includes an inwardly projecting bead adapted to engage the annular collar on the container, and an intermediate side wall portion therebetween. The intermediate side wall portion of the closure includes an area of weakness which is designated to fracture when the closure is unthreaded from the container, thereby leaving the lower skirt portion engaged to the annular collar on the container after the end wall and internally threaded upper portion of the closure have been removed. The area of weakness includes a bridge portion which is sufficiently thin and flexible that it can collapse when the closure is being applied, whereby the faces of the intermediate side wall on either side of the bridge portion come into abutment with each other, and the bridge portions therefore do not prematurely fracture. The closure also includes stabilizers to prevent these abutting wall portions from moving relative to each other while the brige portions have collapsed.

Tamper-evident closures which are useful in conjunction with various bottles and containers are disclosed. The closures are intended to be used in connection with containers having threaded necks above an annular collar, and they comprise one-piece closures including an end wall, an internally threaded upper portion and a depending lower skirt portion which includes an inwardly projecting bead adapted to engage the annular collar on the container. The depending lower skirt portion has a substantially uniform thickness throughout its entire area intended to contact the annular collar on the container, and theclosure includes an area of weakness which is designed to fracture in a substantially horizontal plane across the closure or, in another embodiment, in a plane which neither passes through nor is tangential to the annular collar on the container. Fracture thus occurs when the closure is unthreaded from the container, thereby leaving the lower skirt portion engaged to the annular collar on the container after the end wall and internally threaded upper portion of the closure have been removed.
